    Speedtrap Ride Tuesday September 28th

The Speedtrap Ride, a bike ride among the great ones, will roll out for its final official ride of the season this Tuesday, September 28th, at 6:08 pm from Spoke Life Cycles in Elmore, Ohio. The weather looks to be favorable for riding: temperature in the upper 60s at ride time, a ENE wind of 5 mph, and virtually no chance of rain.

Scott Lang will lead the Ghost Pepper Riders and will likely average 22 – 23+ mph. Are you up to the challenge?! Bob Kayden will ride out with his Cayenne Pepper Riders at (maybe) a slightly slower pace, 21 – 22+ mph. Doug Kilpatrick and his Habanero Riders will average 20 – 21 mph. A substitute ride leader is needed for the Jalapeno Riders, but they will likely average 17 – 19 mph. I will ride out with anyone who would like to go at a more casual pace. We will be the Sweet Pepper Riders and will average anywhere from 14 – 16+ mph.

Pictured is regular Speedtrap Rider Claude Watkins, as he appeared on September 25, 2018.

Please join us for a ride on some of the quietest country roads in this area, and with some great people, too, as we say goodbye to the official 2021 season. Sign-in begins in front of the bike shop at 5:30 pm, and we ride at 6:08 (to let Spoke Life employees close the shop and be ready to ride). I hope to see you then!

PS  Some of us slower riders may leave anywhere from 5:30 to 6:00!

Speedtrap Ride Tuesday September 21st recap

The Speedtrap Ride, one of America’s great Tuesday night rides, brought nineteen cyclists to Elmore on a rainy and windy Tuesday evening. The Speedtrap Ride was spared, though, as riders only encountered wet pavement in spots. No rain fell during the ride.

Scott Lang’s Ghost Pepper Riders and Bob Kayden’s Cayenne Pepper Riders rode together as one group. Scott reported a 22.2 mph average.

Doug Kilpatrick led a combined Habanero/Jalapeno Pepper group. John Del Toro reported an average of 20.4 mph.

Claude Watkins, Dave Stoiber, and I rode as the Sweet Pepper Riders very casually and returned to Elmore in the dark with a 14 mph average.

Pictured with his wife Becky is Bob Kayden, wearing the kitten jersey. Bob celebrated his 69th birthday on Monday by running 6.9 miles. Congratulations and Happy Birthday Bob! May there be many more runs, cycling events, and Speedtrap Rides in your future! Our best wishes to Bob and Becky Kayden!

After the ride, several riders gathered at DeStazios Bistro in downtown Elmore for food, drink, and good conversation, and to continue the celebration of Bob Kayden’s birthday.

Next Tuesday, September 28th, the Speedtrap Ride will roll out for the last official ride of the season, Come and join us as we ride some very quiet country roads in rural Ottawa, Sandusky, and Wood Counties.

Ride time will again be 6:08 pm, and sign-in will begin in front of the bike shop at 5:30 pm. I hope to see you then!

Please note: Some of us slower riders may ride out as early as 5:30.

From Joe Peltier, 5fer Thursday Ride Captain September 23, 2021

    Sept. 16 Recap

    Hot 1 - 24.1

Hot 2 - No reported Note:  Ride Leader Tim E. had a mechanical issue and rode with Extra Spicy

    Extra Spicy - A blistering 22.00

    Spicy Plus - 18.7

    Spicy - 17.2

    GLR - 14.5

It was a great night for riding.  64 riders made it to the start.  All ride leaders reported good and safe rides.  Many smiles were seen post ride.  It was a good time.

    For tonight's ride:

Lights:  Make sure to have them

Clothing:  Be prepared for the cooler and potentially wet conditions

    Ride start time: 6pm

    Weather:

    • It does not look promising now.  I'll make a call this afternoon as I study the radar and try to out-guess the professional meteorologists.
    • I will put the safety of the group ahead of everything else
    • We love/live to ride.  It's not worth it if we can't ensure the safety of all the riders

    Special mentions:

    • Hot one volunteer ride leaders Phil Carrol, Monica (don't know your last name) and Jim Mazy.  Thank you all for stepping up
    • Doug K. for thinking outside the box with his rather large group
    • Jodi, Tim P. and John G. for their steady leads and visible coaching
    • All the riders who show up week in and week out for making this a pretty awesome and unique experience.
We have only 2 official rides remaining for this season.  Let us make them great rides.

     Regards,

    Joe "El Capitan" Peltier

TAB Windsday ride start location change to Central Trail Elementary, 4321 Mitchaw Road. Seems that Timberstone always has something going on. We will start at Central Trail next week also. We will ride south on Mitchaw and turn right onto Sylvania to follow the same course we have been doing. We depart 6:00 and will have 4 groups going out.  There is a chance we could be rained out. I will post and send notification by 5:00 if I cancel. If you don’t hear from me by 5:00 that means I will head out there and make a decision at the school.
