Speedtrap Ride Tuesday September 14^th recap

          The best Tuesday night ride along the Portage River, the Speedtrap Ride, brought thirty-four cyclists to Elmore last night for another windy ride. Actually the first portion of the ride was the only part with a headwind. Most of the return trip to Elmore came with a nice tailwind.

          Scott Lang with his Ghost Pepper Riders and Bob Kayden with his Cayenne Pepper Riders rode out as one group. However, the two groups split with Scott reporting an average of 22.9 mph and Bob reported 22.1 mph.

          The Habaneros and Jalapeno Riders also rode out together, but eventually split. Doug Kilpatrick reported a 21.0 mph average for his Habaneros. Todd Pollock and Candy Langoria were the only two Jalapenos. Todd reported 18.8 mph for the both of them. Todd Pollock provided the picture of the Habaneros and Jalapenos from the rear.           There were only three of us Sweet Pepper Riders, We rode very well together except against the headwind(Well, I was the one who had trouble with the headwind). My garmin indicated 14.63 mph.

          Please join us next Tuesday, September 21^st, for the next chapter of the Speedtrap Ride. Ride time will be 6:08 pm to give the Spoke Life employees a few minutes to get to the ride. The long range forecast is for a high of 86, with only a 20% chance of precipitation, and southerly winds at 10 – 15 mph(slightly better than we have experienced the last two weeks): a perfect night to ride. After the ride, many will be heading to DeStazios Bistro in downtown Elmore. The restaurant is staying open later than usual just for Speedtrap Riders. Sign-in begins in front of the bike shop at 5:30 pm. I hope to see you then!

TAB Old 24 Ride cancelled tonight due to severe weather coming into the area.

TAB Windsday ride will again roll out this Wednesday September 15^th. We depart Timberstone JH at 6:00. We will have 4 groups going out.

F&F: 22+ mph, 25 mile route

RF: 19 to 21 mph avg, 25 mile route

R&R: 16 to 18 mph avg, 25 mile route

GRL: 14 to 16 mph, 20 mile route

Speedtrap Ride Tuesday September 14^th

          The Speedtrap Ride, the best Tuesday night ride along the Portage River, will roll out again this coming Tuesday, September 14^th, from Spoke Life Cycles in Elmore at 6:15 pm. The temperature is predicted to be in the mid to low 80s, with a 20% chance of precipitation, and a SW wind of 15 mph diminishing slightly as the evening progresses.

          Scott Lang will lead the Ghost Pepper Riders, and his group expects to average 22 – 23+ mph. Are you ready! Bob Kayden will lead the Cayenne Pepper Riders at a slightly slower pace, 21 – 22+ mph. Doug Kilpatrick will take out the Habanero Riders and will likely average 20 – 21 mph. The Jalapeno Riders, led by Todd Pollock, will likely average 17 – 19 mph. I will ride out with the Sweet Pepper Riders. My group was averaging 16+ mph, but the wind may slow us down a little.

Speedtrap Ride Tuesday September 7^th recap 

 Thirty-five cyclists came to Elmore on Tuesday for a very windy Speedtrap Ride. Scott Lang led the Ghost Pepper Riders and reported a riding average of 22.5 mph. Bob Kayden and his Cayenne Pepper Riders rode to a 21.1 mph average. Doug Kilpatrick led the Habanero Riders and reported a 20 mph average for his group. Todd Pollock reported seven Jalapeno Riders and a 17.6 mph average. Claude Watkins and I were the only Sweet Pepper Riders,  

This week, all riders rode the 25-mile Peggy Avers route. There was a strong southwest wind, predicted to be 18 mph. This slowed everyone down on the first half of the ride. The sky was also overcast, which made for a darker than usual ride. Unfortunately, because of the wind and overcast skies, Claude and I wound up in total darkness with six miles left. A good samaritan gave us a ride back to Elmore just in time to celebrate Kathy Metzger’s birthday.

TAB Sunday morning ride will depart Secor Metropark on Sept 12th at 8 am. We will be riding the same 50 mile route we did last week. We will stop in Oaks at mile 15.5 and again in Delta around mile 32.  Average speed will be between 16-18 mph.

TAB Old 24 Ride will depart CycleWerks in Whitehouse at 6:00 for all the September rides. We will ride 28.5 miles with an average between 19-21 mph.

Speedtrap Ride Tuesday September 7^th

          The Speedtrap Ride, the best Tuesday night ride out of Ottawa County, will roll out again this Tuesday, September 7^th, at 6:30 pm, from Spoke Life Cycles in Elmore, Ohio. This week we will ride the Peggy Avers 25-mile route. The link to ridewithgps and route map are provided below. The temperature is predicted to be in the low to mid 80s, and no more than a 15% chance of precipitation. However, there will be a healthy SW wind of 18 mph.

          Scott Lang will lead the Ghost Pepper Riders, and he expects his group to average 23+ mph. Are you up to the challenge? Bob Kayden will lead the Cayenne Pepper Riders at perhaps a slightly slower pace of 22+ mph. Doug Kilpatrick will take out his Habanero Riders, and will likely average 20 – 21 mph. Todd Pollock and his Jalapeno Riders will average 17 – 19 mph. I will ride out with the Sweet Pepper Riders, and we’ll likely average 16 – 17 mph.
