Speedtrap Ride Tuesday August 3rd

          The Speedtrap Ride, the best Tuesday night ride out of Ottawa County, will roll out once again tomorrow, Tuesday, August 3^rd, from Spoke Life Cycles in Elmore, Ohio, at 6:30 pm. The temperature is predicted to be in the upper 70s with an ENE wind of less than 4 mph, and 0% chance of rain.

          Scott Lang will be leading the Ghost Pepper Riders over a 25-mile course. If you ride in his group, expect to average 23+ mph. Are you up to the challenge!

          Bob Kayden will lead the Cayenne Pepper Riders at (maybe) a slightly slower pace, 22+/- mph.

          Doug Kilpatrick will lead the Habanero Riders and expects to average 20 – 21 mph.

          Todd Pollock will take out the Jalapeno Riders and will average anywhere from 16 – 19 mph.

          I will ride with anyone who would like to go out at a casual pace. We will be the Sweet Pepper Riders.

          After the ride, several may gather in front of the bike shop for camaraderie with other riders.        

          The Speedtrap Ride is a joint venture of TAB and the Flatlanders. It is a perfect opportunity to ride on some quiet country roads! You’ll likely meet some great people, too! Come join me for the first TAB ride in August this Sunday, August 1^st, 2021.  We are starting from Secor Metropark and not Wildwood.  There is a triathlon going on that I do not want to cross courses with.   We will meet at the Secor Center and roll out at 8:00 am for a 47.5 mile route. We will head to Oak Openings then to Delta for a snack stop. This is a no drop ride with average speed between 16 and 18 mph.

5fer Thursday July 29^th recap

          Warm temperatures and high humidity brought sixty-three cyclists to Side Cut Park last night for TAB’s 5fer Thursday Ride.

          Thank you to James Mazey for leading the Hot 1 group. He reported a riding average speed of 24.1 mph

          Tim Eckel led the Hot 2 group and came back with an average of 22.3 mph

          Doug Kilpatrick and his Extra Spicy Riders returned with an average of  

21.0 mph.

          The Spicy Plus Riders rolled out with Tim Prand as leader and returned with a 19.0 mph average.

          Jodie Petcoff led the Spicy Riders to a 16.7 mph average.

          John Galdeen, leader of the GLR(Good Looking Riders) reported                14.2 mph.

          After the ride, instead of immediately leaving for home, many riders stayed in the park for camaraderie with fellow cyclists.

          For roughly twenty years TAB’s 5fer Thursday Ride has been one of TAB’s premier rides drawing large numbers of cyclists for a fun evening of riding. Let’s hope it continues for another twenty! Its next chapter will roll out once again next Thursday, August 5^th, at 6:30 pm. Perhaps I’ll see you then.

Speedtrap Ride Tuesday July 27^th recap

          Thirty-nine cyclists, a record crowd for 2021, came to Elmore Tuesday night for the Speedtrap Ride.

          Scott Lang led the Ghost Pepper Riders and reported a riding average of 23.1 mph.

          Bob Kayden led the Cayenne Pepper Riders at 22.1 mph

          Doug Kilpatrick and his Habanero Riders averaged 20.9 mph

          Dan Waggoner led six  Jalapeno Riders and reported 18.1 mph

          I rode out with four other Sweet Pepper Riders . Claude Watkins from that group reported 16.4 mph.

GRL: 14 to 16 mph, 20 mile route

Speedtrap Ride Tuesday July 27^th

         The Speedtrap Ride, one of America’s great Tuesday night rides, will roll out once again tomorrow, Tuesday, July 27^th, at 6:30 pm from Spoke Life Cycles in Elmore, Ohio. Weather conditions are predicted to be very favorable: temperature in the mid 80s, SW winds at 5 mph, and only a 6% chance of precipitation.

          Scott Lang will lead the Ghost Pepper Riders. His group will likely average 22 – 23 mph.

          Bob Kayden will be back to lead the Cayenne Pepper Riders with a riding average of 21 – 22+.

          Doug Kilpatrick will lead the Habanero Riders. If you ride in his group,  expect to average 20 – 21 mph.

          Todd Pollock will lead the Jalapeno Riders, His group will average anywhere from 16 – 19 mph.

          From many parts of Toledo Elmore is no farther than Whitehouse. It just seems like it because it’s in another county. TAB Sunday Morning ride, July 25^th, will again depart from Wildwood Metropark at 8 am for a 41 mile ride. This is a no drop ride with two stops, average speed between 16 and 18 mph.

Speedtrap Ride Tuesday July 20^th recap

          Exceptionally nice weather brought thirty-eight cyclists to Elmore last night for the Speedtrap Ride.

          Scott Lang led the Ghost Pepper Riders and reported a 23.4 mph average.

Dan Willis, who was in that group, only averaged 23.399 mph. He’ll have to ride better on his next visit!

          Dave Stover and Doug Kilpatrick were co-leaders for a combined Cayenne Pepper/Habanero Pepper group. They reported a riding average of 22 mph.

          Todd Pollock led the Jalapeno group of nine riders, one of them new to the Speedtrap Ride, and reported a riding average of 17.7 mph.

          Four others and I rode out as the Sweet Pepper Riders. My Garmin indicated an average of 15.65 mph, but others may have had a slightly higher average, as I lagged a bit behind in the last two miles(but I’m finally riding a little better).

          There was a mild west wind, but it made the return to Elmore enjoyable!

          There were five riders new to the Speedtrap Ride last night. All are pictured:

Come join the Windsday TAB ride tomorrow at Timberstone JH in Sylvania. The GLR and Reasonable and Reliable group keeps growing each week. We will have a ride leader for both groups. The R&R will average around 17 mph and the group can decide to ride the 20 or the 25 mile route. The GLR will do the 20 mile route and will be 14 to 16 mph average. We roll out at 6:30 pm.
