Speedtrap Ride Tuesday June 14^th recap

          The Speedtrap Ride brought thirty-three cyclists to Elmore last night, Tuesday, June 14^th,  for its latest chapter. There was a light easterly wind providing a tailwind on the way out of Elmore, and a mild headwind returning, but it wasn’t all that bad.

          Scott Lang led the Ghost Pepper Riders and reported a riding average of 22.5 mph. Bob Kayden was one of five Cayenne Pepper Riders who rode to a 21.4 mph average. Todd Pollock, filling in for Doug Kilpatrick led a group of three other Habanero Riders. Todd reported a 20.6 mph average. Doug Kilpatrick, substituting for Todd Pollock, led a group of Jalapeno Riders to an average of 18.9 mph.

I was one of four Sweet Pepper Riders. About halfway through the ride, Ben Durant went ahead(no report from him), and Ron Berry turned to head home on his bike. Claude Watkins and I finished the ride having a great time as we were talking, but we didn’t really think about our speed. Perhaps a record for very casual riding?

Next Tuesday, June 21^st, will be our Summer Solstice Ride. The long-range forecast is for a high of 96 degrees, a WSW wind of 15 mph[nice tailwind for the return to Elmore!], and a 20% chance of a thunderstorm. Planned is a pizza party after the ride. If you plan to join us, please bring a few dollars for pizza(from the Portage Inn) and food to share. I hope to see you then!

Thursday 5'fer 6/16/2022 

Mighty Cyclists, 

Another grand Thursday edition of the 5'fer is upon us.  The weather looks to be one of our hottest and muggiest yet this year.  So, be sure to hydrate, hydrate, and hydrate some more.  Most importantly, keep an eye on your fellow cyclists.  If you see someone struggling with the heat, do the right thing and help them.  The last person to recognize that they are in trouble with the heat is the person struggling with the heat! 

Aside from the heat, we're gonna have some wind.  WSW at 12mph gusting to 25mph. WE will work very hard for the first half of the ride and then sail home with the winds at our backs.  Should be fun. 

Chuck Nicewonder will be filling in for me this week and probably next week (6/26).  I contracted Covid-19 and I am sequestered at home and away from my bike for the time being.  No worries, I am already feeling better and plan to be back in the saddle soon.

Last week's ride was one for the record books.  Beautiful weather, great riders and teamwork brought us all back to Side Cut in great moods already looking forward to the next ride.

Another Saturday is approaching and the Meanderer's Ride route has been chosen. Roger leads solo this week out of Whitehouse June 18th @8a for a 38 mile round trip to the North. Average speed for the whole route will be 13-15 mph, but the pace is adjusted based on who shows up that day.

Speedtrap Ride Tuesday June 14^th

          The Speedtrap Ride, the best Tuesday night ride out of Ottawa County, will once again roll out tomorrow, Tuesday, June 14^th, at 6:30 pm from Spoke Life Cycles in Elmore.

          Scott Lang will be back to lead the Ghost Pepper Riders. If you ride in his group, expect to average 22+ mph. Are you up to the challenge?

          Bob Kayden will take out the Cayenne Pepper Riders and will likely average 21+ mph.

          Doug Kilpatrick is slated to take out the Habanero Riders at 20+ mph, and Todd Pollock is the leader of the Jalapeno Riders at 16 – 19 mph. There may be some shuffling of ride leaders as some are preparing for the Michigan Mountain Mayhem this coming weekend.

          I will ride out with anyone who would like to ride at a more casual pace. We will form the Sweet Pepper Riders.

          The weather at ride time appears to be favorable: 84 degrees, less than a 10% chance of rain, and SE winds at 9 mph.

          Come on out to Elmore, and ride some quiet country roads, and meet some great people, too! Sign-in begins at 6:00 in front of the bike shop. I hope to see you then!

We will ride from Whitehouse starting across from Cycle Werks Monday 6/13 at 6:30. If there are enough riders we will have 3 groups 20+ mph, 18-20 mph and 14-16mph. If we do not have enough we will combine the 2 faster groups and try and keep it under 21 mph. 

TAB's Meandering Ride sets out again this Saturday, June 11th, at 8a from Whitehouse, Ohio!! We've pulled a 44mile round trip route down around the river for the group to follow. As many of you know Roger and I expect a 13-15mph hour average for the ride, but we adjust the pace for the people who show up that day. Hope you can come join is this weekend!!

Speedtrap Ride Tuesday June 7^th recap

          Thirty-one cyclists came to Elmore this past Tuesday for the latest edition of the Speedtrap Ride. Dan Willis filled in for Scott Lang and led the Ghost Pepper Riders to a 22.5 mph average. Bob Kayden led a combined Cayenne Pepper/Habanero Rider group and reported a riding average of 21.6 mph. Todd Pollock reported that the Jalapeno Riders started out with seven riders and five returned with an 18 mph average. Claude Watkins reported a riding average of 15.1 mph for the Sweet Pepper Riders. Becky Kayden and Audrey Schnabel formed the Good Looking Pepper Riders and rode down the North Coast Inland Trail and back.[No report on their ride]

          It was tandem night, but only one tandem rode. Dave Stover and Jana Loy reported a riding average of 19.4 mph. There is no picture because they left early[Isn’t that against TAB and Flatlander rules!?]

          For next Tuesday, June 14^th, the long-range forecast is for a high temperature of 85 degrees, less than a 25% chance of rain, and ESE winds at 11 mph. Please join us. Sign-in begins at 6:00 in front of the bike shop. I hope to see you then!

This Saturday the Adventure Ride will depart Whitehouse at 8am from Cycle Werks. We will be riding to the Red Rambler in Wauseon. For those that don’t want coffee there are many other places within a block or so to grab a snack and drinks. The weather will be perfect and the predicted west wind will push us all the way back to Whitehouse. The pace will 18-20, but that will adjusted to ability of the group. This is a no drop Ride. I am looking to another great ride with you all.

As of now, the weather is looking good for Friday. We’ll ride 25-30 miles, at around a 14 mph pace.  Coffee destination unknown at this time - perhaps MacQueens? We leave from Cyclewerks in Whitehouse at 9am.
