    Speedtrap Ride Tuesday June 7th

The Speedtrap Ride is a 25-mile bike ride(22 miles for the slow groups) that takes place every Tuesday through September. We roll out at 6:30 pm from Spoke Life Cycles in Elmore, Ohio. The ride is co-sponsored by the Toledo Area Bicyclists(TAB) and the Flatlanders Bicycle Club of Fremont.

There are five groups, each riding at a different speed. Scott Lang leads the Ghost Pepper Riders. That group usually averages 22+ mph. Are you up to the challenge!? Bob Kayden leads the Cayenne Pepper Riders at a slightly slower pace, 21+ mph. Doug Kilpatrick takes out the Habanero Riders and usually returns with a 20+ mph average. Todd Pollock leads the Jalapeno Riders with an average of 16 – 19 mph. I take out the Sweet Pepper Riders, any who would like to ride at a casual pace.

Come on out to the Speedtrap Ride and spice up your training! You’ll ride some quiet country roads with very little vehicular traffic. In addition, you’ll ride with and meet some great people, too!  After the ride, several riders(and often non-riding spouses and friends) gather for drink and good conversation(and sometimes food, too!)

This coming Tuesday, June 7th, will have favorable riding conditions: temperatures in the low 70s, only a 15% chance of rain, and NW winds at 10 mph. It's also Tandem night. Get out those tandems, lube those chains, and bring your riding partners!

Sign-in begins at 6:00 in front of the bike shop. I hope to see you then!

We will ride from Whitehouse starting across from Cycle Werks at 6:30. If there are enough riders we will have 3 groups 20+ mph, 18-20 mph and 14-16mph. If we do not have enough we will combine the 2 faster groups and try and keep it under 21 mph. Weather looks a little threatening so watch for cancelations here by 5:30 Monday. Hope to see you then.

Speedtrap Ride Tuesday, May 31st recap

The Speedtrap Ride brought twenty-six cyclists to Elmore this past Tuesday for its latest chapter. Warm temperatures, no rain, and favorable winds made for a great ride.

Scott Lang led the Ghost Pepper Riders and reported a riding average of 22.3 mph. Doug Kilpatrick led a combined Cayenne Pepper/Habanero Group and reported a 21.5 mph average. Jeremy Sneath, substituting for Todd Pollock, led the Jalapeno Riders and reported a riding average of 18.2 mph. Claude Watkins, Ron Berry, and I formed the Sweet Pepper Riders. We rode at a conversational pace not even thinking about our speed. Becky Kayden and Audrey Schnabel rode down the North Coast Inland Trail and back.

On a personal note, I felt more comfortable on my bike than I have in a long time!

Pictured Is Rob Golden, co-owner of Spoke Life Cycles. Thank you Rob for allowing this ride to be staged at the bike shop!

Also pictured is Scott Lang, Ghost Pepper Rider leader, who has been featured in these posts several times. This time,  though, we celebrate Scott on riding his 200th Speedtrap Ride. Congratulations, Scott, on this milestone, and hopefully we’ll see you ride your 300th in a few years!

Next Tuesday, June 7th, is Tandem Night. For all of you tandem riders, it will be your night. Get those tandems out, lube those chains, and bring your riding partner! The weather is predicted to be milder with a high temperature is the low 70s. Sign-in begins at 6:00 in front of the bike shop, and we roll out at 6:30. I hope to see you then!
