The Old 24 Breakaway ride will begin its season tomorrow. We will be heading out from Cyclewerks in Whitehouse at 6:30.  The route will be a 28.6 mile loop out to Old 24 and heading north on County Road 3.  Our group average will be between 18 and 20 mph.  I plan to keep it closer to 18 for the first couple of rides before working our way up to a 20 mph average.

    See you on Old 24,

    Jenifer Wiles

    Speedtrap Ride Tuesday May 7th

The 2019 season of the Speedtrap Ride will begin this coming Tuesday, May 7th, where cyclists from all over will convene at Spoke Life Cycles/Elmore and begin riding at 6:30 pm!

There will be four groups of riders.

Scott Lang will lead the Ghost Pepper Riders on a 25-mile course. Most of his group has been riding all winter, so it will be a challenging ride. Riders will most likely average anywhere from 20 – 22 mph. Are you up to that challenge?

Tony Mazurek will lead the Habaneros over the same course.

His group will average 18 – 20 mph.

I will lead the Jalapeno Riders over a slightly shorter 22-mile course. We expect to average 16 – 18 mph.( I personally may be a little slower, having just come off some injuries.)

Marnie Arndt will  lead the Sweet Pepper Riders over a course, distance, and at a speed comfortable for those in her group.

The weather forecast is for thunderstorms Tuesday morning, but it should be dry by ride time, with temperatures in the low 50s.

So come on out to Elmore and ride some quiet country roads with some great people, and see why it is the best Tuesday night ride out of Ottawa County.

Remember, sign-in begins at 6:00, and we roll out at 6:30 pm! I hope to see you then!

Friday night was gray and cold, but 4 riders came out for our ride. The theme of the night looked like it  was ‘Play Misty For Me” as we left in a cold mist. But as we headed north, the mist dropped away. The 3 riders set a brisk pace to match the weather, and dragged the leader along to complete the loop 18.3. (I gotta get in shape.) I was a challenging ride on a challenging night, but well worth the effort.

-- New & Improved Breakfast Route for Sundays

Same start and finish points. Same good food and Secor Park rest-stop.

We have eliminated the rough chip and seal portion of Brint Road by turning North at Lathrop to arrive smoothly at the Country Charm Cafe.

Then we avoid those two RR crossings, after breakfast, that are always a potential hazard, all without giving up any distance.

See the improved route at RideWithGPS  to view and capture your own GPS file of the changes.

See the attached cue sheet and map that you can print at home.

Don't forget the Sunday Breakfast Ride departs at 8AM May through September.

It must have been a long winter because most folks forgot how powerful the 5fer Thursday weather mojo is. Forget the forecasts.....it doesn’t rain on the 5fer! The 18 cool kids that did show, enjoyed an excellent and dry ride. We rode in two groups, a Hot combo which reported a 22.1 mph average which seems quick for Opening Night. We had riders from all 4 of the remaining groups on the other ride which averaged 18.0 mph. I was pleasantly surprised by how well our diverse group worked together and executed smooth rotations on Opening Night. Bodes well for the season. Ride leader photo taken by Jessie Miller. Left to right: Tim Eckel Hot 2, Tony Mazzullo Spicy Plus, Rick Metcalf Xtra Spicy, John Caldeen GLR and Jodie Petcoff Spicy. Not pictured is Matt Cleland Hot 1. The cool kids do it again next Thursday!

The weather didn’t look too great, but 11 riders were anxious to ride and braved the damp to celebrate the start of the weeknight riding season. We had a smooth ride with a typical Windsday head-wind going out and a nice tailwind driving us back. The group was cohesive and smooth, with even Edgar and Tristan holding a smooth pace. Average speed was a causal 16 mph, but with that tailwind we did see 22 for a couple of seconds.

Finally, the May 15th ride will be the Ride to the Ride of Silence, leaving from Tam-O-Shanter back parking lot at 6:00. More details to come.
