Our ride this evening looks to be optimal again.  Start time temperature is predicted to be 72.  It will be in the high 60's when we end.  Winds will be out of the east at 8 mph gusting to 10.  This will make for a challenging second half of the ride.

Sunset is 7:44 pm.  Please make sure you are equipped with front and rear lights.  No matter how bright your kit is, without lights, we are invisible in the shadows.

    Remember, we start at 6pm.

Rides, average speeds and ride leaders are listed below:

    Group 1 (Hot1) - Avg: 20-23+mph, 26 mi:    ??

Group 2 (Hot2) - Avg: Less hot than Hot1 26 mi:   Tim Eckel

Group 3 (Xtra Spicy) - Avg: 19-21 mph, 26 mi:  Doug Kilpatrick

    Group 4 (Spicy Plus) - Avg: 18-19.5 mph, 26 mi:  ??

    Just a reminder to all:

There will be no official TAB rides this coming Sunday, September 18th. Why not? Because this Sunday, Maumee Valley Adventurers' Irish Hills Tour will take place. It has been TAB's policy for some time to support MVA and its invitational rides.

You can register for the Irish Hills Tour on line at the cheaper rate until Friday, September 16th, at midnight. There are routes of 10, 31, 62, and 100 miles. The staging area for the ride is Centennial Terrace in Sylvania, Ohio. You can also register on the day of the ride for an additional fee.

I hope to see you on the road.

    Speedtrap Ride Tuesday September 13th

To all hardy cyclists: The Speedtrap Ride, the best Tuesday night ride out of Ottawa County, will roll out again from Spoke Life Cycles in Elmore, Ohio, this Tuesday, September 13th, at 6:15 pm.  The weather looks to be favorable for riding: a temperature close to 70, little chance of rain, and a west wind less than 9 mph.

Scott Lang will lead the Ghost Pepper Riders over a 25-mile course, and the Cayenne Pepper Riders(substitute ride leader needed) will ride the same course. Riding averages for each group are likely to be 22+/- to 23+ mph. Are you ready for the challenge!

Doug Kilpatrick will take out his Habanero Riders. His group is likely to average 20 to 22 mph.

Todd Pollock will lead his Jalapeno Riders at an average of likely 17 – 19 mph.

All those who would like to ride a more casual pace will form the Sweet Pepper Riders. Averages have been 16+ lately.

Only three more official Speedtrap Rides in the 2022 season! Why not come out and ride some quiet country roads with some great people! Since sunset will be at 7:46 pm, both front and rear lights are highly recommended, especially for slower riders. We’ll roll out at 6:15 pm, with sign-in beginning at 5:45 in front of the bike shop. I hope to see you then!

    The Westerly is Cancelled

The radar shows scattered showers increasing in the area so no ride tonight.

Enjoy the football. I myself will be getting into a used book I just picked up yesterday: Cycle of Lies: The Fall of Lance Armstrong by Juliet Macur.

Speedtrap Ride Tuesday September 6th recap

Forty intrepid cyclists came to Elmore Tuesday night for the September 6th edition of the Speedtrap Ride. Pleasant temperatures and practically no wind made for a great ride by all. Riders rode the regular Speedtrap route in reverse.

Scott Lang’s Ghost Pepper Riders and Bob Kayden’s Cayenne Pepper Riders rode as one group and returned with a riding average of 23.7 mph! Doug Kilpatrick reported an average of 22.0 mph for his Habanero Riders. They’re getting pretty fast!!!! Todd Pollock indicated leading 8 Jalapeno Riders to an 18.4 mph. Claude Watkins of the Sweet Pepper Riders said the group had a 16.0 mph average.

Four Triking Cherry Pepper Riders reported a pleasant 11-mile ride down the North Coast Inland Trail and back.

There was one new Speedtrap Rider: Sean Miller. He is pictured in the orange jersey. Welcome Sean to the Speedtrap Ride!

As has been customary, several riders gathered in front of the bike shop after the ride for drink and good conversation, and to celebrate Kathy Metzger’s birthday, Happy Birthday Kathy!

Also pictured is Dan Willis as he attempts to ride his bike backwards. Thank you Kathy Metzger for two of those photos. Todd Pollock provided photos of Jalapeno Riders on the road and Alan Frishman furnished the shot of Habanero Riders. Thank you Todd and Alan!

Please join us next Tuesday, September 13th, when the Speedtrap Ride rolls out once again. We will ride next week at 6:15 pm! With sunset at 7:46 pm, both front are rear lights are highly recommended, especially for slower riders. Sign-in begins at 5:45 in front of the bike shop. I hope to see you then!

Coming September 20th: A special Speedtrap Ride to celebrate Bob Kayden’s 70th birthday! There will be a 7K run and a 45-mile bike ride earlier in the day. Then the Speedtrap Ride will roll out no later than 6:10 pm with fun, food, and fellowship after the ride. Plan to join us!

This Saturday the TAB Adventure ride is celebrating some birthdays. We have a couple of Patties who have gained another year of life experience and they would like to celebrate by riding their bicycles. The ride starts at Cyclewerks in Whitehouse at 8am. We will be riding out to Stoney Ridge for 41 miles. The pace will be 18 to 20 MPH rolling with a final average between 16 and 18 mph. The stop in Stoney Ridge is a park so bring your snacks. There are some folks who want to get a few more birthday miles as well as some food and beverages after the ride so come prepared to celebrate life with us!!
