Speedtrap Ride Tuesday September 20th recap

The Speedtrap Ride brought thirty-seven hardy cyclists to Elmore Tuesday night for  its September 20th edition. The temperature was mild, but most reported a brutal wind most of the way.

Dan Willis(substituting for Scott Lang) led the Ghost Pepper Rider. Rob Golden from that group reported a riding average of 22.3 mph.

Dave Stover(filling in for Bob Kayden) led the Cayenne Pepper Riders with a 22.1 mph average

Doug Kilpatrick and his Habanero Riders rode to a 20.1 mph average.

Todd Pollock led eight Jalapeno Riders and reported a 17.7 mph average for his group.

There were four Sweet Pepper Riders. Claude Watkins reported a 16 mph average.

Four Triking Cherry Pepper Riders rode down the North Coast Inland Trail and back.

After the ride, several riders and friends gathered in front of the bike shop for drink and good conversation, well into the darkness.

There were no riders new to the Speedtrap Ride, but pictured is regular Speedtrap Rider Kathy Metzger as she appeared in the kitten jersey September 3, 2019. We celebrated her birthday two weeks ago, but was not pictured. Also pictured are some Jalapeno Riders on the road. Thank you Todd Pollock for that photo!

Please join us next Tuesday, September 27th, for the last official Speedtrap Ride of the season. Our official ride time will be 6:00 pm, but we will wait a few minutes for the bike shop folks to close the shop and get out to the ride. There will be a mixture of clouds and sun, with a high temperature of 60 degrees. The sun will set, however, at 7:20 pm, so front and rear lights are highly recommended, especially for slower riders. Sign-in begins at 5:30 in front of the bike shop, I hope to see you then!

The second to last ride of 2022.  Let's continue with our great and safe rides.

Today is the first day of fall and the weather for this evening reflects that.  Start time temperature will be 60 with winds out of the NNW at 11 mph gusting to 20 mph.  When we roll back to Side Cut, the temps will already be 55 with the same winds.

Review your kit and make sure you dress accordingly.

Sunset is 7:31 pm.  Lights, front and rear, are highly recommended.  We need to be visible to the people driving the vehicles on our route.  Without lights, a cyclist is basically invisible to a motorist.

    Remember, we start at 6pm.

Rides, average speeds and ride leaders are listed below:

    Group 1 (Hot1) - Avg: 20-23+mph, 26 mi:    ??

Group 2 (Hot2) - Avg: Less hot than Hot1 26 mi:   Tim Eckel

Group 3 (Xtra Spicy) - Avg: 19-21 mph, 26 mi:  Doug Kilpatrick

    Group 4 (Spicy Plus) - Avg: 18-19.5 mph, 26 mi:  ??

Group 5 (Spicy) - Avg: 16-18 mph, 24 mi:  Jodie Petcoff

Group 6 (GLR) - Avg: 14-16 mph, 20 mi:  John Galdeen

On line registration should be working again. If not, let me know.  The link is below.

The Meanderer's are going to take their turn to visit MacQueens this Saturday, September 24th!! We will depart Whitehouse at 8a for this 30-mile round trip ride that will have an overall route average speed that falls between 13-15 mph (speeds adjusted based on who shows up for the ride). Our rest stop will be at the orchard so bring hydration, a snack, or some $$ to make purchases at the store. This is our last 8a start of the season and the last ride of September, so if there are riders willing we'll find a spot to enjoy a post ride meal together!

    Speedtrap Ride Tuesday September 20th

Hardy Cyclists: The Speedtrap Ride, one of America’s great Tuesday night rides, will roll out again this coming Tuesday, September 20th from Spoke Life Cycles in Elmore, Ohio, at 6:10 pm. The weather looks to be favorable for riding: a temperature in the low 80s, a SSW wind of 6 mph, and practically no chance of rain. Sunset will be at 7:33 pm, so front and rear lights are highly recommended, especially for slower riders.

Scott Lang will lead the Ghost Pepper Riders. If you ride in his group, expect to average 23+/- mph. Are you ready for the adrenalin rush!

Bob Kayden will lead his Cayenne Pepper Riders. Averages for his group have been 22 – 23+ mph lately.

Doug Kilpatrick will take out his Habanero Riders at 20 to 21+ mph.

Todd Pollock will lead the Jalapeno Riders at anywhere from 17 to 19 mph.

Those who would like to ride at a more casual pace will be the Sweet Pepper Riders, and will likely average 16+ mph.

The Speedtrap Ride is a TAB ride in cooperation with the Flatlanders Bike Club. It’s a great opportunity to ride some quiet country roads and to meet some great people you might not ordinarily ride with. Just one more official ride of the season after this one, so why not come out to Elmore and give it a try!

This week we’ll be celebrating Bob Kayden’s 70th birthday. Earlier in the day there will be a 7-mile run and a 45-mile bike ride as part of the celebration, and after the ride there will be food provided by Becky Kayden, along with good conversation!

Sign-in begins at 5:40 in front of the bike shop. I hope to see you then!

Pictured is Bob ready to lead his Cayenne Pepper Riders on July 27, 2021.

Speedtrap Update: Speedtrap Ride is still on, but Bob's birthday celebration events are cancelled due to an unforeseen medical issue. Hopefully celebration events will take place September 27th.

Speedtrap Ride Tuesday September 13th recap

Thirty-one intrepid cyclists came to Elmore Tuesday night for the September 13th Speedtrap Ride. Although a mild west wind was predicted, some reported it as strong as 15 mph. Aside from that, most indicated they had a great ride.

John Del Toro led a combined Ghost Pepper/Cayenne Pepper group. Rob Golden from that group reported a 23.3 mph average.

Doug Kilpatrick and his Habanero Riders rode to a 20.8 mph average.

Todd Pollock rode out leading eight Jalapeno Riders, but returned as a group of nine, picking up Ben Durant along the way. Todd reported 18.7 mph for the group.

Four other riders formed the Sweet Pepper Riders and Claude Watkins from that group reported 16.0 mph

Tom and Charlene Saunders rode  down the North Coast Inland Trail and back for 17 miles at 12 mph.

There were no riders new to the Speedtrap Ride this week. However, pictured (from earlier this year) is Ben Durant, the one (former?) Sweet Pepper Rider who seems to be getting faster every week! Way to go Ben! Also pictured is a group of Jalapeno Riders on the road. Thank you Todd Pollock for that photo!

After the ride, several gathered in front of the bike shop for drink and good conversation.

Next Tuesday. September 20th, we will celebrate Bob Kayden’s 70th birthday. There will be a 7-mile run at 6:00 am, then a 45-mile bike ride a 2:00 pm. The Speedtrap Ride will cap things off at 6:10 pm, with fun, fellowship and food following the ride. All events begin and end at Spoke Life Cycles in Elmore. The high temperature will be 82 degrees, with a SSW wind of 5 mph, and little chance of rain. Sounds like a fun time to me! Please join us!

Sign-in begins at 5:40 in front of the bike shop. I hope to see you then!

Our ride this evening looks to be optimal again.  Start time temperature is predicted to be 72.  It will be in the high 60's when we end.  Winds will be out of the east at 8 mph gusting to 10.  This will make for a challenging second half of the ride.

Sunset is 7:44 pm.  Please make sure you are equipped with front and rear lights.  No matter how bright your kit is, without lights, we are invisible in the shadows.

    Remember, we start at 6pm.

Rides, average speeds and ride leaders are listed below:

    Group 1 (Hot1) - Avg: 20-23+mph, 26 mi:    ??

Group 2 (Hot2) - Avg: Less hot than Hot1 26 mi:   Tim Eckel

Group 3 (Xtra Spicy) - Avg: 19-21 mph, 26 mi:  Doug Kilpatrick

    Group 4 (Spicy Plus) - Avg: 18-19.5 mph, 26 mi:  ??

Group 5 (Spicy) - Avg: 16-18 mph, 24 mi:  Jodie Petcoff (Hopefully)

    Just a reminder to all:

There will be no official TAB rides this coming Sunday, September 18th. Why not? Because this Sunday, Maumee Valley Adventurers' Irish Hills Tour will take place. It has been TAB's policy for some time to support MVA and its invitational rides.

You can register for the Irish Hills Tour on line at the cheaper rate until Friday, September 16th, at midnight. There are routes of 10, 31, 62, and 100 miles. The staging area for the ride is Centennial Terrace in Sylvania, Ohio. You can also register on the day of the ride for an additional fee.

I hope to see you on the road.
