Speedtrap Ride Tuesday August 30th recap

Thirty-two intrepid cyclists came to Elmore Tuesday evening for the August 30th edition of the Speedtrap Ride.

Scott Lang led the Ghost Pepper Riders and reported a riding average of 22.9 mph.

Bob Kayden led five Cayenne Pepper Riders, plus Doug Kilpatrick for a while, to an average of 22.3 mph.

Todd Pollock had eleven in his group of Jalapeno Riders and reported 18.7 mph for an average.

Ben Durant of the Sweet Pepper Riders reported a 16.4 mph average for that group.

Becky and Audrey again formed the Good Looking Pepper Riders and rode down the North Coast Inland Trail and back for thirteen miles.

Most riders experienced a healthy west wind, 10 to 15 mph, gusting even higher. However, there were no complaints as most of the return to Elmore portion of the ride was enjoyable.

After the ride, several riders gathered in front of the bike shop for drink and good conversation.

Pictured is veteran Flatlander David Burris. Although he is not new to the Speedtrap Ride, it was his first appearance in quite some time! Welcome back David! Also pictured are some Jalapeno Riders on the road. Thank you Todd Pollock for those two photos!

Please join us next Tuesday, September 6th, when the Speedtrap Ride rolls out once again. The forecast is for favorable weather—a high of 80 degrees! Ride time will be 6:30 pm! It will be ride-the-Speedtrap-route-in-reverse night! We will ride counterclockwise! Sign-in begins at 6:00 in front of the bike shop. I hope to see you then!

This weeks edition of the TAB adventure ride will be lead by yours truly. Rick Metcalf had planned to lead, but the original planned route is not available so we will save that for a later date. We will be leaving from Cyclewerks in Whitehouse at 8 am for a 40 mile route. The pace will be 18 to 20 mph rolling with an ending average between 16 and 18 mph. Come enjoy the beautiful fall weather with us.

The Meanderer's are heading out again this Saturday, Sept 3rd, from Whitehouse (across from Cycle Werks) at 8a for a 37-mile jaunt to Liberty Center with a return along River Road!! Overall average pace for the ride will be 13-15 mph, but we adjust the pace for the group that rides that week. It's supposed to be a hot one, so be sure to pack hydration and a snack to enjoy at our midpoint.

    Speedtrap Ride Tuesday August 30th

To all hardy cyclists: The Speedtrap Ride will roll out once again tomorrow, Tuesday, August 30th, from Spoke Life Cycles in Elmore, Ohio, at 6:30 pm.

Scott Lang will lead the Ghost Pepper Riders and expects his group to average 22 – 23+ mph. Are you ready!

Bob Kayden will lead the Cayenne Pepper Riders at a slightly slower pace, 21 to 22+ mph.

Doug Kilpatrick and his Habanero Riders will likely average 20 – 21+ mph.

Todd Pollock will be back to lead the Jalapeno Riders at 16 – 19 mph.

All others who would like to ride at a more casual pace will form the Sweet Pepper Riders and will likely average 14 – 16+ mph.

The weather forecast for ride time calls for a temperature in the upper 70s, sunny skies, with no chance of rain. However, a 15 mph west wind is predicted. That should, however, make the return to Elmore portion of the ride very enjoyable.

The sun will set at 8:10 pm. So slower riders should have both front and rear lights to make you more visible on the road.

Come on out to Elmore and ride some quiet country roads! You’ll meet some great people, too! Sign-in begins at 6:00 in front of the bike shop. I hope to see you then!

Speedtrap Ride Tuesday August 23rd recap

The Speedtrap Ride brought forty-seven intrepid cyclists to Elmore Tuesday evening for vintage bike night. Even though groups were shuffled a little and riding speeds varied, all reported on having a grand time.

Rob Golden led what was to be a combined Ghost Pepper/ Cayenne Pepper Group, but two groups rolled out separately. Jason Moore from Ghost Pepper riders reported a 20.1 mph average, while Bob Kayden led 6 riders and reported 21.3 mph for a riding average.

Doug Kilpatrick led a combined Habanero/Jalapeno Group and reported 19.4 mph for a riding average.

The Sweet Pepper Riders broke apart. Ben Durant reported 16.1 mph for his group. Claude Watkins guided others in. No average to report.

Three Good Looking Pepper Riders rode down the trail and back for 13 miles at 10 mph, while four Triking Cherry Pepper Riders also rode down the trail.

Although most reported having a fun ride, the highlight of the evening was the vintage bikes. Pictured in a row are all the vintage bikes with their riders(Dave Stover in front). Also pictured are two groups of Ghost Pepper Riders, many on vintage bikes. Three riders rode single-speeds: John Del Toro, Bob Kayden, and Chris Marquardt.  Several riders enjoyed food and drink provided by Rob Golden’s family. All this while the voting for best vintage bikes took place. The four winners, each of a $25 voucher from Spoke Life were Ron Purk, John Del Toro, Dave Stover, and Chris Marquardt. Congratulations to all winners!

There were two riders new to the Speedtrap Ride: Bob Lutz and John Lee. Both are pictured. Welcome!

Please join us next Tuesday, August 30th, for the next chapter of the Speedtrap Ride. The long range weather forecast indicates a high temperature of 85 degrees, still very summery. We roll out at 6:30 pm. I hope to see you then!

Coming September 6th: Ride the Speedtrap route in reverse!

Just an FYI, if you were thinking about riding Windsday tonight, it's open house at Timberstone. We'll probably meet any Central Trail, about a quarter mile north on Mitchaw. Spread the word to anyone else you know who might be riding.
