Speedtrap Ride Tuesday August 31^st

          One of America’s great Tuesday night rides, the Speedtrap Ride, will roll out once again this coming Tuesday, August 31^st, from Spoke Life Cycles in Elmore at 6:30 pm. The weather looks to be favorable for riding: temperature in the upper 70s, NE winds at 7 mph, and only a 15% chance of precipitation.

          Scott Lang will lead the Ghost Pepper Riders, and will likely average 23+ mph. Bob Kayden will take out his Cayenne Pepper Riders at 22+ mph. Doug Kilpatrick will lead the Habanero Riders at 20 – 21 mph. Todd Pollock and his Jalapeno Riders will average anywhere from 17 – 19 mph. I will ride with the Sweet Pepper Riders, averaging around 16 mph.

          The Speedtrap Ride is a great opportunity to ride some of the quietest country roads of all the TAB rides. The Ride is also a joint venture of TAB and the Flatlanders, so it’s a great opportunity to meet some great new people. Sign-in begins at 6:00 in front of the bike shop. I hope to see you then!

Come join Ken and myself for the Sunday Morning TAB ride. We will depart from Wildwood Metropark at 8 am. We will follow the regular Sunday route, 41 miles. This is a no drop ride and we will average between 16 and 18 mph. We will stop for a snack around the half way point.

Speedtrap Ride Tuesday August 24^th recap

          The Speedtrap Ride brought thirty-six cyclists to Elmore Tuesday evening for a hot and humid ride.

          Scott Lang reported a 23.2 mph average for his Ghost Pepper Riders.

          Bob Kayden and his Cayenne Pepper Riders rode to a 22.1 mph average.

          Doug Kilpatrick led the Habanero Riders and reported a 20.5 mph average.

          Thank you Dan Waggoner(substituting for Todd Pollock) for leading the Jalapeno Riders. He reported an average of 18.3 mph.

          Four Sweet Pepper Riders rode out together and stayed together for the first half of the ride. Then the group broke apart. Scott Mesnard from that group reported 17.1 mph. Scott rode his first Speedtrap Ride on Tuesday. Welcome Scott. He is pictured.

          After the hot and humid ride, several gathered for drink, snacks, and welcome air conditioning at DeStazios Bistro in downtown Elmore.

          Please join us next Tuesday, August 31^st, for the next round of the Speedtrap Ride. The long range forecast calls for a 40% chance of scattered thunderstorms, but high temperatures in the low 80s. I hope to see you then!

TAB Windsday ride start location change this week to Central Trail Elementary, 4321 Mitchaw Road. Timberstone JH has an open house. Central Trail is .3 miles North of Timberstone. We will ride south on Mitchaw and turn right onto Sylvania to follow the same course we have been doing. We depart 6:30 and will have 4 groups going out.

F&F: 22+ mph, 25 mile route

RF: 19 to 21 mph avg, 25 mile route

R&R: 16 to 18 mph avg, 25 mile route

GRL: 14 to 16 mph, 20 mile route

Speedtrap Ride Tuesday, August 24^th

          The Speedtrap Ride, one of America’s great Tuesday night rides, will roll out again this Tuesday, August 24^th, from Spoke Life Cycles in Elmore, Ohio, at 6:30 pm.

          Scott Lang will lead the Ghost Pepper Riders, and his group will likely average 23+ mph over a 25-mile course. Are you ready!!??

          Bob Kayden will take out his Cayenne Pepper Riders at what may be a slightly slower pace, 22+/- mph

          Doug Kilpatrick will lead the Habanero Riders and will likely average 20 – 21 mph.

          The Jalapeno Riders will be led by Todd Pollock. His group will likely average 17 – 19 mph.

          I will ride out with anyone who would like to ride at a slightly more casual pace. We will be the Sweet Pepper Riders. In the last few weeks our average speed has been around 16 mph, maybe slightly less, maybe slightly more.

          There may be a few riders who would just like to ride down the North Coast Inland Trail and back. They are the GLPR: Good Looking Pepper Riders.

          Because of chip and seal on SR 105, there may be variations from the standard routes.

          The temperature is predicted to be in the upper 80s, with a SW wind of 5 mph. There is a 15% chance of precipitation, but that’s an 85% chance of no precipitation.

          The Speedtrap Ride is a great opportunity to ride some quiet country roads, and to meet some super nice people, too! Why not come out to Elmore and give the Speedtrap Ride a try? After, the ride, several will be gathering at DeStazios Bistro Restaurant in Elmore for food and drink. Destazios is staying open later than usual to accommodate Speedtrap Riders. Speedtrap Ride Tuesday August 17^th recap

          Pleasant riding weather brought forty-one cyclists, a record number for 2021, to Elmore last night for the Speedtrap Ride.

          Scott Lang reported a riding average of 23.2 mph for his Ghost Pepper Riders.

          Bob Kayden indicated there were only four Cayenne Pepper Riders. Each rider’s turn to pull came more quickly than usual. But Bob reported 21.7 mph.

          Doug Kilpatrick and his Habanero Riders rode to a 21.1 mph average.

          Todd Pollock, leader of the Jalapeno Riders, reported that there were six riders in his group, including one new rider, Tim Michaels. Their riding average was 17.8 mph.

          There were six of us in the Sweet Pepper category. Ron Purk from that group reported 15.9 mph.

          There was an easterly wind throughout the ride, making a headwind for much of the return trip to Elmore. However, it didn’t seem to be an issue for mostA.

          Scott Lang will once again lead the Ghost Pepper Riders over a 25-mile course. His group will likely average 22 – 23+ mph.

          Bob Kayden will lead the Cayenne Pepper Riders over the same course and will average slightly less (maybe) 21 – 22 mph.

          Doug Kilpatrick will take out the Habanero Riders. If you ride in his group, expect to average 20 – 21 mph.

          The Jalapeno Riders will be led by Todd Pollock at a 17 – 19 mph pace.

          I will ride out with anyone who would like to ride at a more casual pace. We will be the Sweet Pepper Riders. Last week we averaged 16 mph.

          The temperature is predicted to be in the mid to upper 70s at ride time, with a SE wind of 5 mph. The  chance of some isolated thunderstorms is 30%, but that diminishes quickly as the evening progresses.

          Come out to Elmore for something different! Spice up your training! Ride some quiet country roads! And Meet some great people! Sign-in begins at 6:00 in front of the bike shop. I hope to see you then!

Come join Ken and myself for TAB Sunday Morning ride on August 15th. We depart from Wildwood Metropark at 8 am for a 41 mile ride. This is a no drop ride with two stops, average speed between 16 and 18 mph.

Speedtrap Ride Tuesday August 10^th recap

          Thirty-seven cyclists came to Elmore last night and rode in very hot and humid conditions with a heat index approaching 100 degrees.

          Scott Lang and Bob Kayden led a combined Ghost Pepper/Cayenne Pepper group and reported a 21.7 mph average.

          Doug Kilpatrick and his Habanero Riders to a 20.7 mph average.

          Todd Pollock led a group of eight Jalapeno Riders with an 18.1 mph average.

          I was one of four Sweet Pepper Riders. Kenny Shaw from the group reported 16.1 mph.

          The first eight miles of the ride was a challenge riding against a headwind in the intense heat, but the return trip to Elmore was great!

          Becky Kayden and friend Audrey formed the GLPR(Good Looking Pepper Riders) and rode down the North Coast Inland Trail and back.

          Pictured is Hubert Backes, still riding strong even into his 80s! He is a regular on most TAB rides. The Speedtrap Ride is no exception!

          After the ride, several gathered in front of the bike shop, and inside the bike shop(to avoid the heat) to enjoy for food, drink, music, and good conversation. Thank you Bob and Becky Kayden for furnishing “walking tacos.”
