    Speedtrap Ride Tuesday September 14th

The Speedtrap Ride, the best Tuesday night ride along the Portage River, will roll out again this coming Tuesday, September 14th, from Spoke Life Cycles in Elmore at 6:15 pm. The temperature is predicted to be in the mid to low 80s, with a 20% chance of precipitation, and a SW wind of 15 mph diminishing slightly as the evening progresses.

Scott Lang will lead the Ghost Pepper Riders, and his group expects to average 22 – 23+ mph. Are you ready! Bob Kayden will lead the Cayenne Pepper Riders at a slightly slower pace, 21 – 22+ mph. Doug Kilpatrick will take out the Habanero Riders and will likely average 20 – 21 mph. The Jalapeno Riders, led by Todd Pollock, will likely average 17 – 19 mph. I will ride out with the Sweet Pepper Riders. My group was averaging 16+ mph, but the wind may slow us down a little.

Pictured are regular Speedtrap Riders John and Michelle Del Toro as they appeared on August 13, 2019. Why not give the Speedtrap Ride a try?! Only three more chances this season to ride some of the quietest country roads and to meet some great people, too! We ride at 6:15 pm, with sign-in to begin in front of the bike shop at 5:45 pm. I hope to see you then!

Speedtrap Ride Tuesday September 7th recap

Thirty-five cyclists came to Elmore on Tuesday for a very windy Speedtrap Ride. Scott Lang led the Ghost Pepper Riders and reported a riding average of 22.5 mph. Bob Kayden and his Cayenne Pepper Riders rode to a 21.1 mph average. Doug Kilpatrick led the Habanero Riders and reported a 20 mph average for his group. Todd Pollock reported seven Jalapeno Riders and a 17.6 mph average. Claude Watkins and I were the only Sweet Pepper Riders,

This week, all riders rode the 25-mile Peggy Avers route. There was a strong southwest wind, predicted to be 18 mph. This slowed everyone down on the first half of the ride. The sky was also overcast, which made for a darker than usual ride. Unfortunately, because of the wind and overcast skies, Claude and I wound up in total darkness with six miles left. A good samaritan gave us a ride back to Elmore just in time to celebrate Kathy Metzger’s birthday.

Pictured is the entire group of Speedtrap Riders with Peggy Avers. Our best wishes to Peggy and Family! Also pictured is Kathy with her birthday cakes. Happy Birthday Kathy!

Please join us next Tuesday, September 14th as the Speedtrap Ride rolls out once again from Spoke Life Cycles in Elmore. We will ride at 6:15 pm, with sign-in to begin at 5:45 in front of the bike shop. I hope to see you then!

Speedtrap Ride Tuesday August 31st recap

The Speedtrap Ride brought thirty-seven cyclists to Elmore this past Tuesday, August 31st. It was a nearly perfect evening for riding.

Scott Lang led his Ghost Pepper Riders to a 23.9 mph average. Bob Kayden and his Cayenne Pepper Riders averaged 22.3 mph. Doug Kilpatrick led the Habanero Riders and reported an average of 20.9 mph. Todd Pollock reported starting out with seven Jalapeno Riders, picking up two more along the way, and ending up with an 18.7 mph average. Four of us rode out as the Sweet Pepper Riders, and stayed together most of the way. My Garmin indicated a 16.4 mph average.

Pictured is first time Speedtrap Rider Eric Schulz. Eric hails all the way from Minnesota, and makes his home there. However, he will be doing business periodically in our area, so he’ll likely be joining us again! Welcome Eric!

Next, Tuesday, September 7, the long range forecast calls for a high temperature of 85 degrees, a 40% chance of afternoon thunderstorms, and a SW wind of 18 mph. We will be riding the Peggy Avers 25-mile Ride. Peggy Avers operates I Scream On Your Left, the ice cream shop next to Spoke Life Cycles in Elmore. Over three years ago she fell from a ladder 16 feet to concrete while getting Christmas decorations out of storage. We had a special ride for her to raise some funds to help with medical bills. The map and link to ride with gps are provided.

Sign-in begins at 6:00 in front of the bike shop. I hope to see you then!

From Joe Peltier, 5fer Thursday Ride Captain

    5-Fer Recap

All Thursday rides in September will start at 6pm beginning Thursday, September 2, 2021.

Ride recap from Thursday, August 26.

66 intrepid riders showed up to ride on one of the hottest, and muggiest days of the year. It was hotter than Hell’s Gates at the start.

    Reported averages

Hot 1: No speed reported. They went really fast

Hot 2 and Extra Spicy Combined: 21.8

    Spicy Plus: 19.4

    Spicy: 17.1

    GLR: 15.7

Another night of great rides completed safely. With Hot 2 and Extra Spicy combined, many personal records were broken. It was good to see everyone dig deep and hang on.

Our next ride looks to be optimal. The predicted temperature to start is 73 with winds out of the NNE at 5mph gusting to 9mph and it looks as though those winds are predicted to diminish as the night progresses.

Since the days are getting shorter, lights should be a part of everyone’s ride.

Remember, be safe, have fun and hydrate.

    Joe “El Capitan” Peltier
