We will start in Whitehouse by CycleWerks and head south and then towards Waterville. We will cross the river and head to Grand Rapids on the south side of the river. It is going to be hilly and we will regroup after each set of hills. We will make a QUICK stop in Grand Rapids and then head to Liberty Centre where we will stop for a break at Grandma's Kitchen. Then it is east back to Whitehouse for about 48 miles.

The rolling pace will be 18 to 20. Final average between 16 and 18 mph.

Should be in the mid 70s to start climbing quickly into 80s quickly so be sure to bring hydration! As of today there is a 50% change of scattered thunder storms but that will change at least 3 times between now and then.

    Hope to see you there!

70 mighty cyclists showed up for another great night of cycling on 7/14.  All were in splendid moods and were ready to Ride.

Doug Kilpatrick spoke about the need for volunteers and riders for the upcoming MARR.  And we still need those volunteers and riders.  I bet he and I will be speaking to this topic Thursday.

All riders returned safely and no significant issues were reported.

    7/14 Reported Speeds:

    Hot 1:            22.6

Speedtrap Ride Tuesday, July 19th recap

The Speedtrap Ride, the best Tuesday night ride out of Ottawa County, saw thirty-three riders come to Elmore last night for a great bicycle ride.

Scott Lang was back in good form and led the Ghost Pepper Riders to a 23.1 mph average.

Bob Kayden led a combined Cayenne Pepper/Habanero Rider group to a 21.0 mph average.

The nine Jalapeno Riders rode to an 18.9 mph average as reported by leader Todd Pollock.

There were three Sweet Pepper Riders. Claude Watkins from that group reported 15.3 mph.

Becky Kayden and Audrey Schnabel formed the Good Looking Pepper Riders and rode down the North Coast Inland Trail and back for a total of 13.15 miles at 9.63 mph.

Two riders in addition to the thirty-three were Charlene and Tom Saunders, who may become the trike contingent of the Speedtrap Ride. They also rode down the trail and back, and are pictured.

Pictured also are Kendra and Phil Carroll. It was Kendra’s first Speedtrap Ride. Welcome Kendra!

Tim Michaels rode his last ride with his current cycling shoes. He is pictured with his practically shredded shoe. He bought new shoes before going home.

Todd Pollock provided the picture of Jalapeno Riders on the road. Thank you Todd!

Please join us next Tuesday for the next great chapter in the Speedtrap Ride. With a temperature in the low 80s and SSW winds if 6 mph, it will be another memorable ride. I hope to see you then!

    Speedtrap Ride Tuesday July 19th

              Greetings to all intrepid cyclists:

The Speedtrap Ride will roll out once again tomorrow, Tuesday, July 19th, from Spoke Life Cycles in Elmore, Ohio, at 6:30 pm.

Scott Lang will be back to lead the Ghost Pepper Riders at 22 – 23+ mph. Are you ready for the challenge!!!

Bob Kayden will take out his Cayenne Pepper Riders at a slightly slower pace: 21+ mph.

Doug Kilpatrick will lead his Habanero riders at 20+ mph.

Todd Pollock, leader of the Jalapeno Riders, will take his group out at 16 – 19 mph.

The Sweet Pepper Riders will be all riders who would like to ride at a more casual pace.

The weather prediction for ride time is sunny skies, a temperature in the upper 80s, and a SW wind of 8 mph, diminishing as the evening progresses. Should be at least a mild tailwind for the return trip to Elmore!

Pictured is perennial Speedtrap Rider Ken South as he appeared June 27, 2017.

Come out to Elmore and ride some quiet country roads with some great people! Sign-in begins at 6:00 in front of the bike shop. I hope to see you then!

    Hey ridaz:

First time I have had to do this but no ride tonight. I hope you got your miles in earlier but I don't want to risk riding into a pop up storm tonight.

Enjoy a quality beverage and that special bio pic that you've been saving on Netflix for just such an occasion! Or you could clean your bike...

Speedtrap Ride Tuesday July 12th recap

              Greetings to all,

The Steadfast Speedtrip Riders numbered twenty-nine out of Elmore this past Tuesday, July 12th. All took advantages of sunny skies, and a west wind making a nice tailwind for the return ride to Elmore.

The Ghost Pepper Riders split into three groups while out on the road. One group reported an average of 24.4 mph; the second group 23.9 mph, and the third group 21.6 mph.  Bob Kayden and his Cayenne Pepper Riders rode to a 21.4 mph average. Doug Kilpatrick would have been the sole Habanero Rider, so he rode with the Cayenne Pepper Riders.

Todd Pollock led a group of Jalapeno Riders and reported 18.2 mph. Claude Watkins reported 15.4 mph for the Sweet Pepper Riders.

Welcome back to the Speedtrap Ride to Ron and Joyce Purk! Since they hadn’t been riding for a while, John Galdeen[TAB 5fer Thursday GLR leader] guided them through the ride. Joyce reported 12.8 mph.

Pictured are Ron and Joyce Purk, with John Galdeen. Also pictured is Doug Kilpatrick, a man of many hats: Habanero Ride Leader, TAB 5fer Thursday Extra Spicy Ride Leader, sometimes TAB Saturday Adventure Ride Leader, Bike Specialist at Spoke Life Cycles Elmore, TAB president, and family man! Whew!

The last picture was provided by Todd Pollock! Thank you Todd! He captured the Jalapeno group tackling Alpe d’Elmore, the longest and highest climb on the Speedtrap route that traverses the entire width of the Ohio Turnpike.

The weather for next Tuesday calls for mostly sunny skies, a SW wind of 13 mph, and a high of 90 degrees! It looks to be a great summer ride! Please join us!

76 mighty riders showed up for another great night of cycling on 7/7.  Attitudes were great and we had a couple of guest speakers.

Doug Kilpatrick spoke regarding the Freedom Ride from 7/4 and that he was still taking donations.

Linda Posadny reminded us that the Mad Anthony River Rally (MARR) is fast approaching.  Volunteers are needed as well as riders.  This really is a great event and I think the beer garden is returning this year.  If you can ride, great, If you can volunteer, that would be even better.  These organized rides don't just happen.  They require a fair amount of hours to set up, run and break down.  So please, if you can, give some time and effort to make this another great event sponsored by TAB.

All our rides went off without a hitch.  All riders returned safely with visions of their next ride already dancing in their heads.

    7/7 Reported Speeds:

    Hot 1:            25 - Really Hot!

    Hot 2:            22.9

    Extra Spicy:  22.0

    Spicy Plus:    18.7

    Spicy:             16.4

    GLR:               15.0 on a 22 mile route

The upcoming ride for Thursday, 7/14 is shaping up to be another great opportunity to ride.  The weather looks to be outstanding with a predicted high of 80 and dry with winds out of the East at 7 mph gusting to 9 mph.  But, remember, it's only Tuesday and we are in Ohio where the weather seems to be constantly changing.

Rides, average speeds and ride leaders are listed below:

    Group 1 (Hot1) - Avg: 20-23+mph, 26 mi:    Phil Carroll

Group 2 (Hot2) - Avg: Less hot than Hot1 26 mi:   Tim Eckel

Group 3 (Xtra Spicy) - Avg: 19-21 mph, 26 mi:  Doug Kilpatrick

Group 4 (Spicy Plus) - Avg: 18-19.5 mph, 26 mi:  Joe Peltier

Group 5 (Spicy) - Avg: 16-18 mph, 24 mi:  Jodie Petcoff

Group 6 (GLR) - Avg: 14-16 mph, 20 mi:  John Galdeen

On line registration should be working again. If not, let me know.  The link is below.
