Though windy what a beautiful day for riding. Want to welcome Andrea, Marlene,Mark (returning from Arizona), and Janet (long time TAB member. Nice to see everyone come out. Happily I can say we did not get a rinsing in Tagtagny. Come out next Saturday for a new Meandering Group Ride.

We are back in Milan, MI this Saturday. Arrive early to grab a great cup of coffee from Milan Coffee Works and stay for lunch at Original Gravel Brewing. This route is one of the Ride with GPS Ambassador routes, originally put together by Mike Meiser. It features one of my favorite 5 miles of gravel, Bethel Church Road. Come on out to find out why.

The route is 37 miles with regroup stops at mile 9.5, 13.1, 18.5, 25.5, and 32. Bethel Church is at mile 18.5 and will serve as our rest stop.

The Old 24 Ride was attended by 14 riders. We seem to have a regular following.  It was dry to start with and the radar showed all the storms were to the south of us.  How far south you may ask? About as far south as Old 24.....you guessed it.....we got WET! Old 24 was the only spot with the rain.  Once we turned onto CR-3 it was dry as a bone. The wind was supposed to be pretty strong out of the south west.  I figured we would have a tough battle down Old 24 but it turned out the winds were light and we were cruising above our intended 19.5 average.  It sure helped that we had 14 riders and everyone rotated often. The trip home down CR-C gave us a nice push.  There was no way we were going to finish with a 19.5 average.  We ended with a 20.0 average, starting with 14 riders and ending with 14!  The evening ended with an invitation to Local Thyme with Cycle Werks Ladies Ride.  Thanks Julie for the invite!

The last Windsday in May is upon us. And everything about Windsday looks good except for one thing - the possibility of rain. The forecast is for rain all day with the possibility of a bit of a let up at 5:00. So keep your eyes on the forecast and on Facebook/email/TAB website in case I cancel. I try to cancel by 5:30 before people start to drive to Timberstone.

Remember, we’re a full service ride with Edgar and the Fast & Furious at 21 or better, Jen and the Reasonably Fast at 19 avg, myself with the Reasonable & Reliable at a 17 avg and Rocky with the Relaxed group in the 14-15 range. Come on out and join us - weather permitting!

"A great BIG THANK YOU to all the volunteers and riders that helped make today's Memorial Day 100K Ride a huge success. The generosity that was shown today has allowed $2,000 to be donated to the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund. For those that are unaware this Organization uses funds to build medical facilities that are used to treat service members who are suffering from Traumatic Brain Injuries and Post Traumatic Stress."

Speedtrap Ride Tuesday, May 28^th

          The Speedtrap Ride, the most fun anyone could have on a Tuesday evening in Ottawa County, will take place tomorrow, Tuesday, May 28^th, at 6:30 pm, from Spoke Life Cycles/Elmore.

          Scott Lang will lead the Ghost Pepper Challenge. Are you ready for it? Expect to average  20 - 22 mph.

          Tony Mazurek will lead the Habaneros. His group will likely average 18 – 20 mph.

          I will lead the Jalapeno Riders and we hope to average at least 16 mph.

          John Galdeen will be filling in for Marnie Arndt and taking the Sweet Pepper Riders on a ride comfortable for all who join him.

          The weather should somewhat favorable. The high temperature is predicted to be 82. Winds will be from the west at 15 – 25 mph, and may be easing a bit as evening approaches. This should make most of the return ride to Elmore fun. Rain and scattered thunderstorms predicted for earlier in the day should be over by ride time.

          As has been the case for some time now, some riders will likely gather at the Portage Inn in Elmore after the ride for food, drink, and good conversation.

          Spice up your riding schedule! Come on out to Elmore and experience something different! Ride some quiet country roads and meet some great people, too! Sign-in begins at 6:00. I hope to see you then!

Looking forward to the Old 24 Breakaway ride tomorrow.  Expect the average speed to be around 19.5 mph.

We will be heading out from Cyclewerks in Whitehouse at 6:30 for a 28.6 mile loop out to Old 24 and heading north on County Road 3. Come on out and enjoy the fun.

I had to miss Windsday due to a family obligation, but Edgar filled in and had this to say:

“27 riders signed in and two strays joined for a total of 29 riders. F&F had an avg of 22.1 with 7 riders, Jenifer had 10 riders and an avg of 19.5, Dan Becker had 7 riders and an avg of 17.4, Ron Schieb rode with 5 and had an avg of 15.5.

“Everyone reported a smooth ride, the wind was approximately 8 from SSW. The highlight of the evening was that we were asked around 6:25 to move the cars toward the track side of the parking lot, because an award evening. So the ride started at 6:40. And indeed, the parking at the school was maxed out when we came back, some parked even in the grass. Glad we promptly reacted, so we don’t get kicked out of that ride start location.

“Great ride. Now we have to watch Trevor so that he can’t get away with that new bike.”
