    Mighty Cyclists,

Last Thursday on 6/1 we had 70 Mighty cyclists show up for the warm weather and the challenging East winds.

Group 1 (Hot1): Phil Carroll stepped in as ride leader in the absence of Ben Groves who was out of the country on holiday.  Phil reported the front runners of the group reported a 25.1 average.  I would call that smoking aces hot.  Phil and 3 others got gapped and finished a bit later than the extremely hot riders.

Group 2 (Hot2): Tim Eckel and his crew must have heard the sonic boom from Hot 1 and they came in at a blistering 22.7 average.

Group 3 (Xtra Spicy): Doug Kilpatrick and his Thursday night warriors were out to conquer the world and came in with a 21-mph average.

Group 4 (Bold Picante): Traci Bash led her hot pepper riders to another 20.2 mph average.  Consistency is the key here.

Group 5 (Spicy+): Keith Meredith led the Spicy plus contingent to a nice 18.1 mph average.

Group 6 (Spicy):  Dave and Mark led crew of 13 riders on the course with 3 new additions.  No issues reported as they coach, teach and ride.

Group 7 (GLR):   John Galdeen reported a nice 14.5 mph average on a 14.5-mile course.

No issues reported.  All riders made it back safely.  The post ride mood was spirited and excited.  It is heartening to see the groups gel, leaders rise, and the teachers teach.

Our next ride is Thursday, 6/8/23.  The weather is looking to be pretty close to perfect with a start time temp of 73 and no rain.  Winds will be out of the East AGAIN at 13 mph and gusting to 19 mph.  The ride out will be fun and fast.  The ride in will be made of suffering and hard work.

The Toledo Blade is sending a reporter out to the ride.  So, if you can, wear your club jerseys!  TAB, MVW, Flatlanders etc.  This ride is sponsored by TAB but all are always welcome.

It’s official, Traci’s Bold Picante group is now part of the 5’fer family.  Please pay close attention to the group numbers below.

Please use the online sign-up option for the ride and avoid the clipboards!!  The link is below

    Speedtrap Ride Tuesday June 6th

The best Tuesday night ride out of Ottawa County, the Speedtrap Eide, will roll out once again tomorrow, Tuesday, June 6th, at 6:30 pm, from Spoke Life Cycles in Elmore, Ohio.

Scott Lang will lead the Ghost Pepper Riders. If you ride with his group, expect to average 22 – 23+ mph. Are you up to the challenge!

Bob Kayden will once again take out his Cayenne Pepper Riders, averaging 20 – 21+ mph.

Doug Kilpatrick will lead a group of Habanero Riders at 19 – 20+ mph.

David Justin Barret, filling in for Todd Pollock, will lead the Jalapeno Riders, averaging anywhere from 16 – 19 mph.

I will be on hand for the Sweet Pepper Riders, whose averages last week were around 16 mph.

The temperature at ride time is predicted to be 75 degrees, with partly cloudy skies. There will,  however, be a NE wind of 13 mph, producing a moderate headwind for most of the return-to-Elmore portion of the ride.

Speedtrap Ride Tuesday May 30th recap

Warm late spring weather brought forty-one hardy cyclists to Elmore Tuesday night for the May 30th edition of the Speedtrap Ride.

Scott Lang led the Ghost Pepper Riders and reported an average of 22.7 mph.

Bob Kayden and his Cayenne Pepper Riders rode to a 20.7 mph average.

Doug Kilpatrick took out his Habanero Riders and returned averaging 19.5 mph.

The Jalapeno Riders, led by Todd Pollock, started out with nine riders, picked up two, then lost one, and returned with an average of 17.3 mph.

There were at least nine Sweet Pepper Riders, all at various speeds. Dave Stoiber from that group reported 16.0 mph.

There was a moderate headwind, with occasional gusts, on most of the return route to Elmore. All groups posted lower averages than last week because of the wind.

There were four riders new to the Speedtrap Ride. They are pictured: Joe Belich(Hammer jersey-thank you Kathy Metzger for that photo), Tom Kyllo(green/black jersey), Deyo Hasbrouck(thumbs up) and Jessica Hansen, Jessica’s first time was actually two weeks ago, but I wasn’t there to get her picture. Welcome all to the Speedtrap Ride.

Also pictured are some Jalapeno Riders on the road. And could that be Todd and Chuck in the same photo??!! Thank you Todd for those!

After the ride, several gathered in front of the bike shop to celebrate the forthcoming birth of Rob and Carrie Golden’s newest child. Congratulations Rob and Carrie!

Please join us next Tuesday, June 6th, for the next chapter of the Speedtrap Ride. The long-range forecast is calling for a high of 79 degrees, but still a NNE wind of 12 mph. I hope to see you then.

This Saturday, June 3rd, the Meanderer's will be heading out at 8a for a 30mile route that will land us at MacQueen's Orchard for our mid ride break. Bring hydration and a snack (or $$ for purchases) for the route that typically will typically average 13-15mph. Rolling speeds can be faster than that, but we adjust the pace for the group that shows up for the ride. We hope you'll be able to join us for another amazing Saturday to go out and ride bikes!!

    Mighty Cyclists,

    2023-05-25 Ride Report

46 riders showed up on a cool and breezy Thursday evening.  Unlike most pre-rides, we were all gathering in the sun to stay warm before we sped off in search of the perfect ride.   The Northeast wind made for a challenging return leg.  Especially on Monclova road where it seemed there was no draft and we all were buffeted by the wind to some extent.

    Reported Results:

Group 1 (Hot 1): Ben's group came in at at an even 24 mph.  Ben was worried that they would come in at less than 24... Ben's report can be viewed:

    https://www.facebook.com/groups/48899481811/permalink/10160921793266812/

Group 2 (Hot 2):  Tim Eckel and his merry band of riders came in with an average of 21.8 mph

Group 3 (Xtra Spicy):  Kris Jensen filled in for Douglas and his group of Hot 2 wannabes came with an average of 21.1

Group 3.5 (A little less Xtra Spicy):  Traci led a spirited and disciplined group to a 20.2 mph average.

Group 4 (Spicy Plus): Keith led the group to a nice 17.8 mph average

Group 5 (Spicy):  Mark and David led the group to a 16.4 mph average.  And they had anew rider (Kathryn) who was impressive with her ability to pick up group riding etiquette (Dave and Mark couching) and her pulling abilities.

    Group 6 (GLR): No report

    2023-06-01 - Pre-Ride

    Speedtrap Ride Tuesday May 30th

The Speedtrap Ride, one of America’s great Tuesday night rides, will roll out again tomorrow, Tuesday, May 30th, at 6:30 pm from Spoke Life Cycles in Elmore, Ohio.   The weather prediction for tomorrow at ride time is sunny skies, a 7% chance of rain, a temperature in the low 80s, and an east wind of 12 mph. That east wind will likely produce a slight headwind on much of the return trip to Elmore.

Scott Lang will lead the Ghost Pepper Riders over a 25-mile course. If you ride in his group, expect to average 23 mph.

Bob Kayden will take out his Cayenne Pepper Riders over the same course, and will likely average 21 – 22 mph.

Doug Kilpatrick and his Habanero Riders will cover the same course at 20+ mph.

Todd Pollock, although he could ride in a much faster group, will lead the Jalapeno Riders at anywhere from 16 – 19 mph.

I will be on hand for the Sweet Pepper Riders, who last week rode at 16 mph.

Pictured is perennial Speedtrap rider (and Flatlanders president) John Del Toro,  with wife Michelle, as they appeared on August 13, 2019.

Why not spice up your weekly riding schedule with something different. Ride some quiet country roads and meet some great people, too! Elmore is no farther than Whitehouse from many parts of the Toledo Metro area.

Sign-in begins at 6:00 in front of the bike shop. I hope to see you then!

    Chuck Nicewonder

PS There may be a special celebration after the ride.
