Speedtrap Ride Tuesday June 13th recap

The Speedtrap Ride brought eighteen hardy cyclists to Elmore last night to ride in brutal wind, blustery, cloudy conditions, cool temperatures, with the possibility of rain any minute.

Because of the low turnout, some riding groups were combined. Because of the unfavorable weather, some rode in a group slower than their usual.

Scott Lang reported an average of 22 mph. David St. Louis reported 21.0 mph. Thank you David for leading.

Unfortunately, as the Habanero/Jalapeno group was passing the Sweet Pepper Riders, two bikes made contact with each other. Both riders went down and suffered shoulder injuries. Fortunately, though, the injuries were not serious or life-threatening. Our thoughts and prayers are with the riders to enjoy a speedy recovery and to be back in the saddle soon.

Pictured is regular Speedtrap rider Candy Langoria, who was one of last night’s hardy cyclists.

Please join us next week for the June 20th edition of the Speedtrap Ride. The long-range weather forecast calls for a high of 77 degrees, partly cloudy skies, and only a 20% chance of precipitation. There will, however, once again, be an ENE wind of 10 – 20 mph. I hope to see you then!

The June 13th chapter of the Speedtrap Ride will roll out tomorrow at 6:30 pm from Spoke Life Cycles in Elmore, Ohio.

Scott Lang will lead the Ghost Pepper Riders. If you ride in his group, expect to average 23+ mph. Are you ready for the adrenalin rush?

David St. Louis, filling in for Bob Kayden, will take out the Cayenne Pepper Riders, and will likely average 21+ mph.

Doug Kilpatrick and his Habanero Riders will likely average 20+ mph.

Todd Pollock will lead his Jalapeno Riders and will average anywhere from 16 – 19 mph.

I will be on hand to ride with the Sweet Pepper Riders. Speeds have varied among riders in the last few weeks, but have been about 16 mph.

The weather forecast for ride time calls for a temperature of 65 degrees, a WSW wind of 11 mph, and a 45% chance of scattered thunderstorms.(That means 55% of no thunderstorms!)

Pictured is veteran Flatlander and substitute ride leader David St. Louis, as he appeared on May 25, 2021.

Hopefully rain will hold off for everyone to have a great ride. Sign-in begins at 6:00 in front of the bike shop. I hope to see you then!

The Meanderer's are rolling out of Whitehouse this Saturday, June 10th @ 8a for a 32-mile jaunt out to Liberty Center. Bring hydration and a snack (or some $$) for our mid-ride rest stop at Grandma's. Our average speed for the whole 32-miles will end up between 13-15mph, so you can expect some rolling speeds a bit faster than that, but we will adjust the speeds for the abilities of the people who show up to ride bikes with us!! Hope to see you this Saturday!

Speedtrap Ride Tuesday June 6th recap

The Speedtrap Ride, the best Tuesday night ride out of Ottawa County, brought forty-one hardy cyclists to Elmore last night.

Scott Lang led a group of nine Ghost Pepper Riders and reported a 23.3 mph average.

Bob Kayden  and his five Cayenne Pepper Riders rode to a 21.7 mph average.

Doug Kilpatrick reported 21.0 mph for his Habanero Riders.

David Barret, substituting for Todd Pollock, started out with eleven, but ended with eight, Jalapeno riders, and returned to Elmore with an average of 16.9 mph.

    Thank you David.

I rode out with at least six other Sweet Pepper Riders. Kevin Konoff from that group reported 16.2 mph for a riding average.

There was a mild headwind for most of the return ride to Elmore, but not as bad as last week’s headwind, and not as bad as was predicted.

After the ride, several gathered in front of the bike shop to celebrate Scott Lang’s birthday. He is pictured in the kitten jersey, a Flatlanders’ tradition!

Thank you Kathy Metzger for the watermelon cake!

The next chapter of the Speedtrap Ride will take place next Tuesday, June 13th, at 6:30 pm from Spoke Life Cycles in Elmore. However, the long-range weather forecast calls for a high of 71 degrees, a 40% chance of showers, and a west wind of 17 mph. Hopefully that forecast will improve as we approach next Tuesday. I hope to see you then.
