The Speedtrap Ride, the best Tuesday night ride out of Ottawa County, brought thirty-one riders to Elmore Tuesday evening for the last official ride of the season and to celebrate Bob Kayden’s 70th birthday.

Scott Lang led his Ghost Pepper Riders and reported an awesome 24 mph riding average. A nice way to end the official season!

Bob Kayden and his Cayenne Pepper Riders rode to a 21.3 mph average.

Todd Pollock led a combined Habanero/Jalapeno group and reported an average of 18.9 mph.

Pictured are some Habanero and Jalapeno riders on the road. Thank you, Todd Pollock for the photo.

Josh Smith was the only rider new to the Speedtrap Ride this week. He is pictured in the blue jersey. Welcome Josh!

After the ride, several stayed to celebrate Bob Kayden’s 70th birthday. He is pictured wearing the kitten jersey(Thank you Kathy Metzger), and also with cake and ice cream, both with Becky. Also pictured are some after ride partiers.

Thank you to all four ride leaders for a great 2022 season. Pictured are Scott Lang, Bob Kayden, Doug Kilpatrick, and Todd Pollock. Thank you to all the riders who came and rode, whether one time or throughout the season. I hope everyone had a great time. That’s what it’s all about. I look forward to May 2, 2023, when the Speedtrap Ride rolls out once again.

The last Thursday ride of 2022.  Sigh……

Another cool evening ride.  Temperature at the start will be 58, dropping to 52 by the time we finish.  Winds will be out of the ENE at 7mph gusting to 8mph. Feels cold already. Review your kit and make sure you dress accordingly.

We need ride leaders tonight for Hot 1 and Hot 2.  If you're willing and interested, let me know.  Text 419 376 8347 (identify yourself) or email jpeltier823@gmail.com.

Sunset is 7:20 pm.  Lights, front and rear, are VERY highly recommended.  We need to be visible to the people driving the vehicles on our route.  Without lights, a cyclist is basically invisible to a motorist.

    Remember, we start at 6pm.

Rides, average speeds and ride leaders are listed below:

    Group 1 (Hot1) - Avg: 20-23+mph, 26 mi:    ??

    Group 2 (Hot2) - Avg: Less hot than Hot1 26 mi:   ??

Group 3 (Xtra Spicy) - Avg: 19-21 mph, 26 mi:  Doug Kilpatrick

Group 4 (Spicy Plus) - Avg: 18-19.5 mph, 26 mi:  Joe Peltier

Group 5 (Spicy) - Avg: 16-18 mph, 24 mi:  Jodie Petcoff

Group 6 (GLR) - Avg: 14-16 mph, 20 mi:  John Galdeen

On line registration should be working again. If not, let me know.  The link is below.

    Speedtrap Ride Tuesday September 27th

Intrepid Cyclists: The Speedtrap Ride, one of America’s great Tuesday night rides, will make its final official run of the 2022 season this Tuesday, September 27th, from Spoke Life Cycles in Elmore, Ohio, at 6:00 pm! We will however, wait for bike shop folks to close the store and get to the ride.

Scott Lang will lead the Ghost Pepper Riders and will average 22 – 23+mph. Are you ready for the adrenalin rush!

Bob Kayden will take out his Cayenne Pepper Riders. Average speed lately has been very close to that of the Ghost Pepper Riders.

Doug Kilpatrick will lead his Habanero Riders at a riding average of 20 – 21 mph.

Todd Pollock and his Jalapeno Riders will likely average 17 – 19 mph.

All others who would like to ride at a more casual pace will form the Sweet Pepper Riders and will likely average 16+ mph.

Although delayed one week, after the ride we will celebrate Bob Kayden’s 70th birthday in Speedtrap fashion. There will be walking tacos and cake provided by Becky Kayden, along with the usual drink and good conversation.

At ride time, the temperature will be in the upper 50s with a WNW wind of 12 mph. It will be mostly cloudy with a 15% chance of precipitation. Sunset will be at 7:20 pm, so front and rear lights are highly recommended, especially for slower riders,

The Speedtrap Ride is sponsored by the Toledo Area Bicyclists(TAB) and the Flatlanders Bike Club. It’s a great way to meet some fine people and to ride some quiet country roads, too! So come on out and help close out the regular reason with a great ride and Bob’s birthday celebration.

Pictured is regular Speedtap Rider Loren Moore, as he appeared September 18, 2018. He has been riding strong!

Sign-in begins at 5:30 in front of the bike shop. I hope to see you then!

Speedtrap Ride Tuesday September 20th recap

The Speedtrap Ride brought thirty-seven hardy cyclists to Elmore Tuesday night for  its September 20th edition. The temperature was mild, but most reported a brutal wind most of the way.

Dan Willis(substituting for Scott Lang) led the Ghost Pepper Rider. Rob Golden from that group reported a riding average of 22.3 mph.

Dave Stover(filling in for Bob Kayden) led the Cayenne Pepper Riders with a 22.1 mph average

Doug Kilpatrick and his Habanero Riders rode to a 20.1 mph average.

Todd Pollock led eight Jalapeno Riders and reported a 17.7 mph average for his group.

There were four Sweet Pepper Riders. Claude Watkins reported a 16 mph average.

Four Triking Cherry Pepper Riders rode down the North Coast Inland Trail and back.

After the ride, several riders and friends gathered in front of the bike shop for drink and good conversation, well into the darkness.

There were no riders new to the Speedtrap Ride, but pictured is regular Speedtrap Rider Kathy Metzger as she appeared in the kitten jersey September 3, 2019. We celebrated her birthday two weeks ago, but was not pictured. Also pictured are some Jalapeno Riders on the road. Thank you Todd Pollock for that photo!

Please join us next Tuesday, September 27th, for the last official Speedtrap Ride of the season. Our official ride time will be 6:00 pm, but we will wait a few minutes for the bike shop folks to close the shop and get out to the ride. There will be a mixture of clouds and sun, with a high temperature of 60 degrees. The sun will set, however, at 7:20 pm, so front and rear lights are highly recommended, especially for slower riders. Sign-in begins at 5:30 in front of the bike shop, I hope to see you then!

The Meanderer's are going to take their turn to visit MacQueens this Saturday, September 24th!! We will depart Whitehouse at 8a for this 30-mile round trip ride that will have an overall route average speed that falls between 13-15 mph (speeds adjusted based on who shows up for the ride). Our rest stop will be at the orchard so bring hydration, a snack, or some $$ to make purchases at the store. This is our last 8a start of the season and the last ride of September, so if there are riders willing we'll find a spot to enjoy a post ride meal together!
