    All,

Currently the AQI for the Toledo and surrounding area is 189 which is at the high-end of the Unhealthy Category. We will monitor this throughout the day and make a decision at 16:00 on whether to cancel the Thursday "7fer" out of Sidecut park. An announcement will be posted at that time, please check back.

    Thanks!

    Recommendations:

Take any of these steps to reduce your exposure:

    • Avoid strenuous outdoor activities.

    • Keep outdoor activities short.

    • Consider moving physical activities indoors or rescheduling them.

    • Choose less strenuous activities (like walking instead of running) so you don’t breathe as hard.

    • Shorten the amount of time you are active outdoors.

    • Be active outdoors when air quality is better.

Speedtrap Ride Tuesday June 27th recap

The best Tuesday night ride out of Ottawa County, the Speedtrap Ride, brought forty-two hardy cyclists to Elmore last night.

Dan Willis substituted for Scott Lang in leading the Ghost Pepper Riders. Thank you Dan. However, Ben Groves from that group reported an average of 24.6 mph. This may be a Speedtrap record.

Bob Kayden and his twelve Cayenne Pepper Riders joined the Habanero Riders, led by Tony Mazurek, and returned with a very impressive 21.8 mph average. Thank you Tony for filling in for Doug Kilpatrick.

John Del Toro, substituting for Todd Pollock(who has military duties), led the Jalapeno Riders to an 19.5 mph average. Thank you John for leading.

The Sweet Pepper Riders started out with nine riders. Claude Watkins from that group reported 15.5 mph.

JoAnn Wegert and Marnie Arndt formed the Good Looking Pepper Riders. They rode down the North Coast Inland Trail and back: 11 miles at 12.0 mph.

Pictured are first-time Speedtrap Riders Renea Magrum(bright green jersey), Frank Kinor(red and black jersey), Steve Parker(blue and white jersey),  John Henline(blue and black jersey),and Troy Poling(orange jersey). Not pictured is Zach Clapp(I’ll get his picture next time!) Welcome all to the Speedtrap Ride!

After the ride, several gathered in front to the bike shop to celebrate Doug Metzger’s birthday. Happy Birthday Doug!

There will not be a Speedtrap Ride next Tuesday, July 4th. The next chapter of the Speedtrap Ride will take place on Tuesday, July 11th. I hope to see you then!

TAB July 4th Freedom 100 Ride

TAB’s Freedom 100 Ride is only 6 days away! Some volunteers are still needed.

Doug Kilpatrick has volunteered to lead the 20 mph group. Dan Riley will be leading the 18 mph group; and David Barret has volunteered to lead the 16 – 18 mph group.

HOWEVER, AT LEAST TWO SAG DRIVERS ARE NEEDED.

Do you have a non-riding spouse or family member who might be able to help SAG? Are you not up to riding 63 miles but would like to be part of the fun?

Then TAB needs you! This is your club! Please consider volunteering!

The ride will start at 8:00 am from the Mallard Lake Area of Oak Openings  Preserve Metropark. Riders will ride to Morenci, Michigan, and back. There will be a gas station/food mart stop on Morenci similar to the one Memorial 100 Riders experienced in Napoleon. Here is a link to the route:

This year TAB will be collecting donations to Miles of Freedom. It’s an organization that is actually part of HOOVES,  but supports veterans on adventure bike rides as part of their healing and recovery.

I hope to see you on July 4th !

    Speedtrap Ride Tuesday June 27th

The Speedtrap Ride, the best Tuesday night ride out of Ottawa County, will have its next chapter, tomorrow, Tuesday, June 27th. Cyclists will leave Spoke Life Cycles in Elmore, Ohio, at 6:30 pm.

Dan Willis, substituting for Scott Lang,  will once again lead the Ghost Pepper Riders. If you ride in his group, expect to average 22 – 23+ mph.

Bob Kayden will take out his Cayenne Pepper Riders, and his group will likely average 21 – 22+ mph.

A substitute leader is needed for the Habanero Riders, as Doug Kilpatrick cannot attend the ride. Average for this group 20 – 21 mph.

Todd Pollock will take out his Jalapeno Riders and will average anywhere from 16 to 19 mph.

I plan to be on hand for the Sweet Pepper Riders, and we will likely average 15 to 16 mph.

The weather forecast at ride time is: a temperature of 75 degrees, mostly cloudy skies, a northwest wind of 10 mph, and about an 18% chance of rain.

At least it’s not an east wind!!!!

Pictured is regular Speedtrap rider Andrew Gundlach, as he appeared May 10, 2022.

Come on out to Elmore and experience something different. The Speedtrap Ride is a joint venture of TAB and the Flatlanders! Ride some quiet country roads with some great people, too! Sign-in begins at 6:00 in front of the bike shop. I hope to see you then!

    Reminder - Portage River Tour

This is just a reminder that MVA's Portage River Tour takes place this Sunday, June 25th. Registration and the ride start is at Woodmore High School in Elmore. You can register for the ride at the cheaper rate on line until midnight Friday, June 23rd.

Because it is TAB's policy to support Maumee Valley Adventurers and the club's invitational rides, there will be no official TAB rides this Sunday, June 25th.

I hope to see you on the road!
