8/17 Ride Report and the 8/24 Ride

Mighty Cyclists,

8/17/23 Ride Report

Around 30 hearty souls show up for what turned out to be a pretty good ride.  The weather cooperated as the afternoon storms moved out of the area in time for a ride.  We had to cut down the number of groups to accommodate the riders that showed up and the reported results are:

Group 1: Hot 1 and Hot 2 combined and came in with a blistering 25.3 average

Group 2: A few riders split off from this group and called themselves the Gravel Hot 1.5 group and rolled in with a 23.2 average

Group 3: This was a combination of Xtra Spicy, some Hot 2 and Spicy plus riders that came in with a 21.5 average

Group 4 was comprised of Spicy plus, Spicy and GLR riders and came in with a very respectable 18.2 average.

Many thanks to the ride leaders and riders for the cooperation and teamwork.

8/24/23 Pre Ride

The conditions for Thursday's ride will be challenging. This will be the hottest and most humid day of the season. Start time temps are predicted to be 93 degrees with winds out of the WSW at 15 mph gusting to 19. There is a 47% chance of precipitation or a 53% chance of no rain.  With weather like this, it is not uncommon to see afternoon/evening thunderstorms pop up.

I will be watching the weather and heat advisories as the day progresses tomorrow.  I'll make the go, no-go call by 1700 (5pm).

If we do ride tomorrow, each individual rider needs to evaluate whether they are up for the challenge.  Make sure you are properly hydrated and bring hydration for the ride and most importantly, the post ride. If you know that you have trouble with the heat, it might be a good idea to skip this ride. All I ask that everyone makes a good honest self assessment as to your ability to ride in heat like we will see Thursday.
