The Meanderer's are rolling out of Whitehouse this Saturday Sept 2nd at 8a for a 40-mile loop down to Liberty Center, past Field of Dreams, and a fun little dip & curve in the road before our return through Oak Openings. Hydration and a snack (or some $$ for Grandma's) are a must for our 13-15mph paced route that is adjusted based on the abilities of the group that shows up to ride. We hope you'll join us to go ride bikes on our first weekend ride of September!!

    From Shannon Yocom:

The ride started out in the sun and perfect warm fall like weather. Winds were almost non-existent. Just past the half way point dark clouds from the NorthWest were moving in, and blowing right in our faces. For a few miles it rained. For a few more miles the rain stopped but constant road spray and puddles turned us into sponges. At the end of the ride a few of us posed for a pic under the rainbow! We managed a 20.9mph average.

    To TAB Club Members:

You’re probably aware of a discussion that’s been going on about multiple group pages where TAB has been posting, for example, many of our ride leaders post to the TAB Members Only Discussion Group, as well as the Northwest Ohio Bicycling Enthusiasts page, and there’s been some confusion on where people should go to get information on group rides and other TAB specific topics.

The TAB members Only Discussion Facebook group is a PRIVATE group, and so, you have to know the name of it to even find it in a search, and then someone has to admit you to the group. So… in an effort to simplify things, The TAB Executive Board has authorized the creation of a new group page called “Toledo Area Bicyclists (TAB).” The link to the group is: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1815214662283217/  This new group is an OPEN group, anyone can search for it and find it, you don’t need permission to join. Going forward, our Ride Leaders and Members of the TAB Executive Board will post to this page and our main website, https://www.toledoareabicyclists.org/   (under the LATEST NEWS tab).

Ride Leaders: Please begin posting your ride information to this new group. You may continue to post to the “TAB Members Only Discussion Group” for a short time, however, after a few weeks, this group will be discontinued. You may also post directly to the TAB Website under the LATEST NEWS area.

I know this is confusing, hopefully with the new page, things will be a little clearer. Also, please be respectful in any posts you create or when replying to others. Thank you all for your patience. AND… Lets get riding, we still have some Summer left.

On Behalf of the TAB Executive Board…

    David J. Barret

    Speedtrap Ride Tuesday August 29th

The Speedtrap Ride will hold its next edition tomorrow, Tuesday, August 29th at 6:30. Cyclists will roll out from Spoke Life Cycles in Elmore, Ohio.

Scott Lang will again lead the Ghost Pepper Riders. If you ride in his group, expect to average 22 to 23+ mph.    Are you up to the challenge??!!

Bob Kayden is back and will lead the Cayenne Pepper Riders at a slightly slower pace, 21 to 22+ mph, or maybe NOT slower than the Ghost Pepper Riders!

That group has been riding fast lately!

Tony Mazurek and Ken South are co-leaders of the Habanero Riders. Their group  originally averaged 20 to 21+ mph. However, they have been riding faster, too!

Todd Pollock should be back to lead the Jalapeno Riders at anywhere from 17 to 10 mph.

I plan to ride out with the Sweet Pepper Riders. In the last few weeks the group has split into two. Last week the faster averaged 17.6 mph.

The weather forecast indicates partly cloudy skies, a SW wind of 6mph, and a temperature in the upper 70s.  There is only a 10% chance of rain at ride time, but that jumps to 56% at 8:00.

After the ride, a pizza party is planned. Why not come out to Elmore and enjoy some quiet country roads, the company of some great people, and pizza after the ride! Sign-in begins at 6:00 in front of the bike shop. I hope to see you then!

8/24 5'fer is cancelled due to the Excessive Heat Warning and the incoming severe weather.

From 13ABC, "The sunshine and heat will return this afternoon. However, highs won’t be as hot as forecast in previous days. Highs are expected to reach the low 90s with a heat index reaching 100 to 105 today. That will be hot enough to fuel another round of storms tonight that may be strong to severe between 7pm and 2am. That line of storms has a high potential of leading to wind damage, more flooding rain, and possibly a tornado."

If you still want to ride, that will be an individual decision. There will be no TAB support this evening

Speedtrap Ride Tuesday August 22nd recap

The Speedtrap Ride brought thirty-two hardy cyclists  to Elmore Tuesday night for a slightly windy bit enjoyable evening of cycling.

Scott Lang, Bob Kayden, and Tony Mazurek, leaders of their respective groups: the Ghost Pepper Riders, the Cayenne Pepper Riders, and the Habanero Riders, all reported a riding average of 22.3 mph. Groups rode together where possible.

David Barret, substituting for Todd Pollock, led eleven Jalapeno Riders to a 19.1 mph average. Thank you, David, for leading!

The Sweet Pepper Riders split into two groups. Claude Watkins reported an average of 17.6 mph for his group. Marnie Arndt rode with Ron and Joyce Purk and reported 13.6 mph

Several riders gathered in front of the bike shop after the ride for drink and good conversation.

There were no riders new to the Speedtrap Ride this week. However, pictured are two riders who have played big roles for the Speedtrap Ride: Marnie Arndt, co-founder of the Speedtrap Ride, and Rob Golden, owner of Spoke Life Cycles. Thank you Marnie and Rob!

For next Tuesday, August 29th, the long-range weather forecast is for a pleasant evening of riding: a temperature in the upper 70s, partly cloudy skies, a west wind of 10 mph, and only a 24% chance of rain. It looks like a pizza party is planned for after the ride!, Sounds like a fun night all the way around!

I hope to see you then!

Last week's Meanderer's ride looked so good that Spicy Adventure Ride thought we try it this week - only in reverse! With NW winds projected, that means twisty bits first and the long straight ride from Lyons with the wind at our backs! Kris Jensen will be leading the ride on Saturday 8/26 @ 8am out of Secor Park. Rolling speeds 18-22, depending on group and wind. This is a no drop ride. Stopping at the Lyons Main Stop in Lyons for a brief break.

The TAB Meandering Ride will be leaving from Whitehouse (across from CycleWerks) this Saturday, August 26th at 8a for a 33-mile loop through Swanton, up to Secor Metrpark, and back. Bring a snack and hydration (weather man says it's going to be humid, humid, humid) for our mid-ride break at the metropark. Pace is adjusted based on the abilities of the group that shows up to ride, but we plan to average 13-15mph for the whole route with rolling speeds sometimes up to 17mph. It's the last Saturday of the month so that means post ride group brunch too!! Hope you'll come out and join us to go ride bikes!!
