Speedtrap Ride Tuesday September 21st recap

The Speedtrap Ride, one of America’s great Tuesday night rides, brought nineteen cyclists to Elmore on a rainy and windy Tuesday evening. The Speedtrap Ride was spared, though, as riders only encountered wet pavement in spots. No rain fell during the ride.

Scott Lang’s Ghost Pepper Riders and Bob Kayden’s Cayenne Pepper Riders rode together as one group. Scott reported a 22.2 mph average.

Doug Kilpatrick led a combined Habanero/Jalapeno Pepper group. John Del Toro reported an average of 20.4 mph.

Claude Watkins, Dave Stoiber, and I rode as the Sweet Pepper Riders very casually and returned to Elmore in the dark with a 14 mph average.

Pictured with his wife Becky is Bob Kayden, wearing the kitten jersey. Bob celebrated his 69th birthday on Monday by running 6.9 miles. Congratulations and Happy Birthday Bob! May there be many more runs, cycling events, and Speedtrap Rides in your future! Our best wishes to Bob and Becky Kayden!

After the ride, several riders gathered at DeStazios Bistro in downtown Elmore for food, drink, and good conversation, and to continue the celebration of Bob Kayden’s birthday.

Next Tuesday, September 28th, the Speedtrap Ride will roll out for the last official ride of the season, Come and join us as we ride some very quiet country roads in rural Ottawa, Sandusky, and Wood Counties.

Ride time will again be 6:08 pm, and sign-in will begin in front of the bike shop at 5:30 pm. I hope to see you then!

Please note: Some of us slower riders may ride out as early as 5:30.

From Joe Peltier, 5fer Thursday Ride Captain September 23, 2021

    Sept. 16 Recap

    Hot 1 - 24.1

Hot 2 - No reported Note:  Ride Leader Tim E. had a mechanical issue and rode with Extra Spicy

    Extra Spicy - A blistering 22.00

    Spicy Plus - 18.7

    Spicy - 17.2

    GLR - 14.5

It was a great night for riding.  64 riders made it to the start.  All ride leaders reported good and safe rides.  Many smiles were seen post ride.  It was a good time.

    For tonight's ride:

Lights:  Make sure to have them

Clothing:  Be prepared for the cooler and potentially wet conditions

    Ride start time: 6pm

    Weather:

    • It does not look promising now.  I'll make a call this afternoon as I study the radar and try to out-guess the professional meteorologists.
    • I will put the safety of the group ahead of everything else
    • We love/live to ride.  It's not worth it if we can't ensure the safety of all the riders

    Special mentions:

    • Hot one volunteer ride leaders Phil Carrol, Monica (don't know your last name) and Jim Mazy.  Thank you all for stepping up
    • Doug K. for thinking outside the box with his rather large group
    • Jodi, Tim P. and John G. for their steady leads and visible coaching
    • All the riders who show up week in and week out for making this a pretty awesome and unique experience.
We have only 2 official rides remaining for this season.  Let us make them great rides.

     Regards,

    Joe "El Capitan" Peltier

TAB Windsday ride start location change to Central Trail Elementary, 4321 Mitchaw Road. Seems that Timberstone always has something going on. We will start at Central Trail next week also. We will ride south on Mitchaw and turn right onto Sylvania to follow the same course we have been doing. We depart 6:00 and will have 4 groups going out.  There is a chance we could be rained out. I will post and send notification by 5:00 if I cancel. If you don’t hear from me by 5:00 that means I will head out there and make a decision at the school.

    R&R: 16 to 18 mph avg, 25 mile route

    Speedtrap Ride Tuesday September 21st

The Speedtrap Ride, one of America’s great Tuesday night rides, will roll out again tomorrow, Tuesday, September 21st, from Spoke Life Cycles in Elmore, Ohio at 6:08 pm., at least we hope! Predictions for ride time are 75 degrees, S winds at 10 mph, with a 60% chance of thunderstorms.

Scott Lang will lead the Ghost Pepper Riders. If you ride in his group, expect to average 22 – 23+ mph. Bob Kayden will lead the Cayenne Pepper Riders. He expects to average 21 – 22 mph. Doug Kilpatrick will take out the Habanero Riders at 20 – 21 mph. The Jalapeno Riders will average 17 – 19 mph. For the Jalapenos a substitute ride leader is needed. I will ride out with anyone who would like to go at a more casual pace. We will be the Sweet Pepper Riders.

Pictured is regular Speedtrap Rider Jason Moore, as he appeared on September 18, 2018. His fitness level and riding ability have improved greatly in three years! Way to go Jason!

After the ride, several may gather at DeStazios Bistro in downtown Elmore for food, drink, and good conversation. The restaurant is staying open later than usual to accommodate Speedtrap Riders. Come and join us! Sign-in for the ride begins in front of the bike shop at 5:30 pm. I hope to see you then!

Speedtrap Ride Tuesday September 14th recap

The best Tuesday night ride along the Portage River, the Speedtrap Ride, brought thirty-four cyclists to Elmore last night for another windy ride. Actually the first portion of the ride was the only part with a headwind. Most of the return trip to Elmore came with a nice tailwind.

Scott Lang with his Ghost Pepper Riders and Bob Kayden with his Cayenne Pepper Riders rode out as one group. However, the two groups split with Scott reporting an average of 22.9 mph and Bob reported 22.1 mph.

The Habaneros and Jalapeno Riders also rode out together, but eventually split. Doug Kilpatrick reported a 21.0 mph average for his Habaneros. Todd Pollock and Candy Langoria were the only two Jalapenos. Todd reported 18.8 mph for the both of them. Todd Pollock provided the picture of the Habaneros and Jalapenos from the rear. Also pictured is Todd Pollock himself, as he was seen on October 15, 2019.

There were only three of us Sweet Pepper Riders, We rode very well together except against the headwind(Well, I was the one who had trouble with the headwind). My garmin indicated 14.63 mph.

Please join us next Tuesday, September 21st, for the next chapter of the Speedtrap Ride. Ride time will be 6:08 pm to give the Spoke Life employees a few minutes to get to the ride. The long range forecast is for a high of 86, with only a 20% chance of precipitation, and southerly winds at 10 – 15 mph(slightly better than we have experienced the last two weeks): a perfect night to ride. After the ride, many will be heading to DeStazios Bistro in downtown Elmore. The restaurant is staying open later than usual just for Speedtrap Riders. Sign-in begins in front of the bike shop at 5:30 pm. I hope to see you then!
