He has a Kent Bike[from some store---- Walmart???)He started out in the GLR group but moved up to Spicy during the ride. However, I guess he's not new to exercise(weights, running).   Good to have you aboard Ben!

    Speedtrap Ride Tuesday June 21st

The Speedtrap Ride, one of America’s great Tuesday night rides, will hold its summer solstice chapter tomorrow, Tuesday, June 21st. We’ll roll out at 6:30 pm from Spoke Life Cycles in Elmore, Ohio.

Scott Lang will lead the Ghost Pepper Rider challenge! If you ride in his group, expect to average 22+ mph. Bob Kayden will lead the Cayenne Pepper Riders at 21+ mph. Doug Kilpatrick will take out the Habanero Riders at 20+ mph.

Todd Pollock will be on active duty in the navy for a few weeks, so a substitute leader will be needed for the Jalapeno Riders, who average anywhere from 16 – 19 mph.

I will ride out with the Sweet Pepper Riders, those who want to ride at a more casual pace.

The prediction for weather at ride time is 0% chance of rain and a WSW wind of 12 mph, diminishing as the evening progresses, It will be sunny, however the temperature will be in the upper 90s. PLEASE DRINK PLENTY OF WATER BEFORE AND DURING THE RIDE!

After the ride, several riders plan to gather in front of the bike shop for pizza from the Portage Inn(some of the best pizza for miles!) If you plan to join us, please bring a few dollars to help cover the cost, and  bring a dish of food to share.

Please join us! Ride some quiet country roads and meet some great people, too! Sign-in begins in front of the bike shop at 6:00, and we roll out at 6:30 pm. I hope to see you then!

Dave Nepper joined me to ride and we had a nice time, enjoying the lack of wind. We got to chat each other up and ended up averaging 15.8 mph. It was a great night for a ride. Dave was out to hit 50 for the day by riding from Luckey to meet me, then riding home to hit is goal.

    Greetings to all,

This is just a reminder that there will be no official TAB rides This coming Sunday, June 26th. Why not? Because on that day Maumee Valley Adventurers will be hosting the Portage River Tour, out of Elmore, Ohio. For some time now it has been TAB's policy to support MVA's invitational rides, and this coming Sunday is no exception.

There are routes of 10, 31, 62, and 100 miles.  You can register for the Portage River Tour on line at the cheaper rate until this coming Friday, June 24th, at 11:59 pm. https://register.mvadventurers.org/portage-river-tour.

I hope to see you on the road!

Speedtrap Ride Tuesday June 14th recap

The Speedtrap Ride brought thirty-three cyclists to Elmore last night, Tuesday, June 14th,  for its latest chapter. There was a light easterly wind providing a tailwind on the way out of Elmore, and a mild headwind returning, but it wasn’t all that bad.

Scott Lang led the Ghost Pepper Riders and reported a riding average of 22.5 mph. Bob Kayden was one of five Cayenne Pepper Riders who rode to a 21.4 mph average. Todd Pollock, filling in for Doug Kilpatrick led a group of three other Habanero Riders. Todd reported a 20.6 mph average. Doug Kilpatrick, substituting for Todd Pollock, led a group of Jalapeno Riders to an average of 18.9 mph.

I was one of four Sweet Pepper Riders. About halfway through the ride, Ben Durant went ahead(no report from him), and Ron Berry turned to head home on his bike. Claude Watkins and I finished the ride having a great time as we were talking, but we didn’t really think about our speed. Perhaps a record for very casual riding?

Pictured are three riders new to the Speedtrap Ride: Joe Bialecki(Spoke Life jersey), Daniel Goeder(green and white jersey), and Steve McNamee(syncros jersey). Welcome all to the Speedtrap Ride.

Also pictured are Todd Pollock’s three companions in the Habanero group.

Next Tuesday, June 21st, will be our Summer Solstice Ride. The long-range forecast is for a high of 96 degrees, a WSW wind of 15 mph[nice tailwind for the return to Elmore!], and a 20% chance of a thunderstorm. Planned is a pizza party after the ride. If you plan to join us, please bring a few dollars for pizza(from the Portage Inn) and food to share. I hope to see you then!

    Thursday 5'fer 6/16/2022

    Mighty Cyclists,

Another grand Thursday edition of the 5'fer is upon us.  The weather looks to be one of our hottest and muggiest yet this year.  So, be sure to hydrate, hydrate, and hydrate some more.  Most importantly, keep an eye on your fellow cyclists.  If you see someone struggling with the heat, do the right thing and help them.  The last person to recognize that they are in trouble with the heat is the person struggling with the heat!

Aside from the heat, we're gonna have some wind.  WSW at 12mph gusting to 25mph. WE will work very hard for the first half of the ride and then sail home with the winds at our backs.  Should be fun.

Chuck Nicewonder will be filling in for me this week and probably next week (6/26).  I contracted Covid-19 and I am sequestered at home and away from my bike for the time being.  No worries, I am already feeling better and plan to be back in the saddle soon.

Please do your best to sign in online.  Follow this link to the registration page:   https://toledo-area-bicyclists.ticketleap.com/thursday-5fer/

Rides, Average speeds and ride leaders:

Group 3 (Xtra Spicy) - Avg: 19-21 mph, 26 mi:  Kris Jensen

Group 4 (Spicy Plus) - Avg: 18-19.5 mph, 26 mi:  Doug Kilpatrick

Group 5 (Spicy) - Avg: 16-18 mph, 24 mi:  Jodie Petcoff

Group 6 (GLR) - Avg: 14-16 mph, 20 mi:  John Galdeen

Last week's ride was one for the record books.  Beautiful weather, great riders and teamwork brought us all back to Side Cut in great moods already looking forward to the next ride.

    Regards,

Scott Lang will be back to lead the Ghost Pepper Riders. If you ride in his group, expect to average 22+ mph. Are you up to the challenge?

Bob Kayden will take out the Cayenne Pepper Riders and will likely average 21+ mph.

Doug Kilpatrick is slated to take out the Habanero Riders at 20+ mph, and Todd Pollock is the leader of the Jalapeno Riders at 16 – 19 mph. There may be some shuffling of ride leaders as some are preparing for the Michigan Mountain Mayhem this coming weekend.
