Soeedtrap Ride Tuesday June 20th recap

The Speedtrap Ride brought forty-one hardy cyclists to Elmore Tuesday night to face a strong easterly headwind  for much of the ride.

Dan Willis, substituting for Scott Lang, led the Ghost Pepper Riders and reported a riding average of 22.9 mph. Thank you Dan!

Bob Kayden’s Cayenne Pepper Riders and Doug Kilpatrick’s Habanero Riders rode together as one group. Bob reported a 20.9 mph average.

John Del Toro substituted for Todd Pollock and led the Jalapeno Riders.(This allowed Todd to ride in a faster group) John Reported  a 16.7 mph average. Thank you John.

Claude Watkins of the Sweet Pepper Riders reported a 15.4 mph average.

After the ride, several gathered in front of the bike shop for drink and good conversation.

Pictured are Audra Rooker and Brett Wineland. Both are new to the Speedtrap Ride. Welcome Audra and Brett! Thank you Tony Mazurek for the photo of both.

Also pictured are Speedtrap Riders on the road. Thank you Todd Pollock for that photo!

The Speedtrap Ride is a joint venture of the Toledo Area Bicyclists(TAB) and the Flatlanders Bicycle Club. It’s a great opportunity to ride some quiet country roads and to meet and to ride with some great people, too!

The long-range forecast for next Tuesday calls for a high of 78 degrees. A northwest wind of 10 – 20 mph is predicted, but there is a 40% chance of showers[That’s a 60% chance of no showers] . I hope to see you then!

    Speedtrap Ride Tuesday June 20th

The Speedtrap Ride, one of America’s great Tuesday night rides, will roll out once again tomorrow, Tuesday, June 20th, from Spoke Life Cycles in Elmore, Ohio, at 6:30 pm.

Scott Lang’s Ghost Pepper Riders will ride a 25-mile course and likely average 22 – 23+ mph. However, I believe Scott is in Hawaii. The Ghost Pepper Riders will need a substitute leader. Are you up to the challenge?

Bob Kayden should be back to lead the Cayenne Pepper Riders at 21 – 22 mph.

Doug Kilpatrick will take out his Habanero Riders and likely average 20+/- mph.

Todd Pollock and his Jalapeno Riders will likely average anywhere from 16 – 19 mph.

I plan to be present for the Sweet Pepper Riders. Averages have been about 16 mph.

At ride time it is predicted to be partly cloudy, with little or no chance of rain, with a temperature of 79 degrees. However, an east wind of 13 mph is predicted. The wind is likely to make the return-to-Elmore portion of the ride a challenge for some, and perhaps bring some averages down once again! Will the east wind ever stop??!!

Sign-in begins at 6:00 in front of the bike shop. I hope to see you then!

Pictured is one of the Speedtrap’s hardiest riders, Tim Michaels, as he appeared August 17, 2021.

The Meanderer's are headed South-ish this week (Saturday, June 17th) for a 32mile route that will take us out and about a portion of River Road. The group will be rolling at 8a out of Whitehouse with an average speed for the route estimated between 13-15mph (rolling speeds can be expected to be faster, but we adjust pace for the group that comes out to ride bikes). Hydration and a snack are a must, especially for our mid-ride break at another fabulous metropark. Hopefully you'll be able to join us for what looks like another beautiful June morning!!

    Mighty Cyclists,

There will be no ride report from June 8th. Doug Kilpatrick will be taking over my duties for tonight's ride. Unfortunately, I was involved in an accident on Tuesday evening, and I am unable to ride.

As Doug indicated in an earlier Facebook post, the weather for tonight is iffy. Douglas will be making the call later this afternoon. And on another note, many thanks to Douglas for stepping in to lead tonight's ride.

Please use the online sign-up option for the ride and avoid the clipboards!!  The link is below.

Speedtrap Ride Tuesday June 13th recap

The Speedtrap Ride brought eighteen hardy cyclists to Elmore last night to ride in brutal wind, blustery, cloudy conditions, cool temperatures, with the possibility of rain any minute.

Because of the low turnout, some riding groups were combined. Because of the unfavorable weather, some rode in a group slower than their usual.

Scott Lang reported an average of 22 mph. David St. Louis reported 21.0 mph. Thank you David for leading.

Unfortunately, as the Habanero/Jalapeno group was passing the Sweet Pepper Riders, two bikes made contact with each other. Both riders went down and suffered shoulder injuries. Fortunately, though, the injuries were not serious or life-threatening. Our thoughts and prayers are with the riders to enjoy a speedy recovery and to be back in the saddle soon.

Pictured is regular Speedtrap rider Candy Langoria, who was one of last night’s hardy cyclists.

Please join us next week for the June 20th edition of the Speedtrap Ride. The long-range weather forecast calls for a high of 77 degrees, partly cloudy skies, and only a 20% chance of precipitation. There will, however, once again, be an ENE wind of 10 – 20 mph. I hope to see you then!
