Speedtrap Ride Tuesday June 29th recap

Twenty-nine cyclists came to Elmore last night for the Speedtrap Ride. However, there was a threat of rain just before ride time, and there was rain all around us. At least two riders left Elmore before even getting on their bikes. Just at 6:30 as riders rolled out, there began a light rain, but not too bad,  but at least one ride came back shortly after starting out. My two riding companions and I decided to wait ten minutes to see if the rain continued. Those two riders decided not to ride, put their bikes away, and went home. I decided not to go out alone.  In Elmore, within a short time, the rain came down harder, with darker skies, and several bolts of lightning and thunder that appeared to be very close. It looked like dangerous and very unpleasant riding conditions.

However, when the four riding groups returned to Elmore, most said they encountered about five miles of nasty weather, including hail, but after that the ride wasn’t bad. Most riders returned to Elmore telling what a great ride it was!

Looks like conditions out on the road were better than in Elmore!

Deb Lohr (substituting for the vacationing Scott Lang) led the Ghost Pepper Riders and returned with a 21.5 mph average.

Bob Kayden led the Cayenne Pepper Riders with a 20.8 mph average.

Doug Kilpatrick and his Habanero Riders  reported a 20.2 mph average.

Todd Pollock led the Jalapeno Riders with 17.3 mph average.

Next Tuesday, July 6th, we ride the Speedtrap route in reverse. Sign-in begins in front of the bike shop at 6:00 pm. I hope to see you then!
