Double Dirdy Birdy Gravel Grinder

It is that time of year where we are dreaming of spring and putting rides on the calendar. According to Punxsutawney Phil spring is just around the corner. With that in mind I would like to invite you to a Double Grinder! Mike's Double Dirdy Birdy Gravel Grinder the weekend of March 2 & 3!

Following the Winter Warrior ride at Tecumseh Brewing Company on March 2 we will be "unofficially" camping out in the wonderful cool spring weather (likely at Portage Lake Campground, TBD) and then doing an OFFICIAL Flatlanders Gravel Grinder at Chelsea Alehouse Brewery on Sunday March 3. It's rough, but we think YOU can handle riding and then enjoying fine artisan beverages TWO days in a row!

When: Sunday, March 3, 2019 at 10 am

Where: Chelsea Alehouse Brewery 115 S Main St, Chelsea, MI 48118 (Public parking in back. Please park toward the back of the lot to make room for other Alehouse customers.)

Speeds: 15 – 17 mph average, less if snowy or icy.

Distance: 40ish miles.

Type of bicycle: gravel or cyclocross bike recommended, mountain bike or fat bike acceptable if you can maintain a 15 -17 mph average on it for 40ish miles.

Tire size: 32mm minimum, 35-40mm tire recommended, spring conditions may exist, uneven gravel, mud, ice, even snow in which case a 2" tire or even a studded tire might be best. Be responsible. Choose the best tire for the conditions. No skinny slick tires.
Small Print: Enjoying artisan beverages post ride and camping is optional but HIGHLY recommended. Non-double headed riders, aka. riders whom only want (or are able) to ride on one day and not the other will be accepted grudgingly. Other options in the area for the non-camping inclined include yurts, cabins, hotels, B&B as well as driving up and down the US-23 mindlessly all weekend Campfires are mandatory, but we might share ours with you if you don't smell too funny.

This is a combined effort: Mike Meiser - ride leader and writer with myself – Flatlander ride poster and smiling face. Please direct all complaints to Mike and all compliments to me. :) We are looking forward to this event. Reservations for camping or other accommodations are your responsibility but let us know if you are planning to participate so we have some idea of a head count.
